Hoorah Frith, what brilliant news that smaller son is happy with his new school, and I too am very pleased that they treated the pigeon with respect. I can't wait to hear your updates in September when he starts
It reminds me that yesterday before school, DD and I were talking about it being her penultimate day at current school and she suddenly said - "Mummy, do you know what the best thing about my new school is? No, I mean the 3 best things?!?!"
Turns out they are: 1) her new friends (aaaah, bless x), 2) the playground (still as tiny as it was when I went there, about the size of a netball court!) and 3) the fact she'll be wearing a school sweatshirt rather than a cardi (random, I know!).
I'm glad she's feeling so positive, and wonder if it's a real mental push to block out sad feelings about leaving her current school. Whatever it is, I'm just being positive and cuddly whatever she says and however she feels.
I've already got pleasures and it's only half 5!
1. Cuddle with DD before I got up
2. Pay day - and due to only working term time, but being paid over 12 months, I wasn't sure how leaving on the last day of term would work; whether I'd owe them money or not - turns out they owed me instead, so the bills are safe for this month, whether we move or not - PHEW!!
3. It's already sunny, but a bit cooler than yesterday and the day before, and the day before etc etc etc.....
4. Thanks to Frith, I've just remembered I need to catch up on Holby!0 -
Good morning all !
Boy! there are a lot of changes going on for you all at the moment ,all positive
Prince Louis would do it for me ...My great nephew has the hideous "modern" name that starts with a "J" I did laugh :rotfl:
Glad you first day went well Skintos and enjoy your last day Mhagster x
Have a good day all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -

I also hav e a lounge full of teenagers, do they count too?:rotfl:
Frith, fab news
Kittikins, good luck to you andDD on your last day. Onwards and upwards
LFS lovely story about the tractor and you dad
Bizzylizzie, I love podding peas, it's one of those strangely satisfying things to do. I find peeling mushrooms the same. But then I'm odd
Yesterday's pleasures
1. The missing cat came back, but then I decided to let the bloody thing out again for toiletting purposes and it wouldn't come back
 we have now found the litter tray so once it comes in, it is staying in. Assuming we find it :-/. Not sure that's a pleasure, but still
2 nice unexpected lunch with former colleague/friend. Took rather longer than I had available but still it's nice to see her. She is an absolute inspiration to me, she was abandoned by her husband when their son was a few days old, brought him up alone, has survived breast cancer, travelled the world with her son and now spends most of her year in France. She is amazing (but a little bit scary)
3 work was OK. I finally finished writing a tricky exam paper I have spent too long on. Just got to do the answers now
4 DD friends came for sleepover, bringing her the most amazing birthday presents which they made themselves and which sum DD up to a "t"
5 OH cooked chilli and garlic prawns with spaghetti and rocket, yummy. The teenagers had Chinese.
Off to work I go, have a nice day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Yoohoo! It's a very happy and relaxed Mhagster!
I've had a lovely last day at work....the happiest day ever:)
Woke up at ridiculously early 4.30am. I knew I wouldn't get back to sleep , so got up and phoned a friend at home, watched the baby leaving hospital just half an hour after it happened ( this is the way to do it....go to bed then catch up on the news!) and made the most delicious chocolate and orange cupcakes to take into work....all before 7am
My other main colleague has been away at another business for a few weeks but was here today , so it was so nice to catch up with him and his news and hear about the other business. Other colleagues not on shift popped in to say cheerio.
I was very lucky and was given the following gifts from colleagues and customers: 20 beautiful yellow roses, a beautiful glass paper weight, 2 beautiful jewelled clasps ( I always wear a clasp in my hair) , chocolate and more chocolate , the most stunning bouquet I've ever had in my life of beautiful long stemmed red roses and a very generous gift of department store vouchers....I shall look forward to spending them!
I was hugged, squeezed and kissed throughout the day
Nice phone chats with my friend in Sydney and my mum this evening.
Went out for a celebratory dinner with family. We went to our cheap and cheerful Chinese restaurant and had a lovely meal....I am stuffed!
So , I left the building! Happy not sad ( only got teeny bit emotional when I read my card from colleagues) onwards and upwards mhagster!
Wishing you all a lovely Wednesday0 -
Well, I'll kick in here quickly too as Spits prep. calls.
Wonderful reading mhags - enjoy your 10 days before vestments of servitude are donned again. And of course you can have contact with NICE ex-colleagues/customers should you choose. pk takes your job baton as of now.
1. Putah stampy-footy BUT managed at 3rd attempt to open, find good em re:NZ Uncle. Phoned, he's home! - much sooner than expected. Spoke to them both, so glad I can do this. It's his first night and he was feeling a bit sore, about to go to bed, with Aunt and he having usual bossy niggling loving etc...could hear it all. Old fashioned Highway Code book has arrived for cousin's son, aiming for driving test[he of USA school rugby tour]- causing much merriment. BUT WE SPOKE:-)
2. 7 fat raspberries.
3. Still love this warmth and weather.
4. Txt from friend in next village. After her major surgery, met her daughter in w8rs in my pause post-funeral on Monday, before next appt called. Please come and see me, she says...will take some Holy eggs from our Lady Vic's chicks and a jar of latest jam, about which I am shamelessly boastful.
5. 'Colin's Sandwich' dvd arrived. When will I get around to watching it? Oh, that's a thought. Add on to no.4.
6. Yesterday, nsd/npd, but today must fuel up, w/d stand fee for tmrw.
7. Again called Primus re: SO's leaving Bank a/c and returning, despite big sort out not many weeks ago. Now have completely new details again - on verra. But nice Liam did investigate techie things and it is apparent that village equipment is outdated, so cannot benefit from the good sounding offer which had attached itself to my online statement...pity.
8. sparrer - a pity you're not an isihac fan. I really do feel Name The Prince has legs in a Royal Mornington Crescent lateral. I'm moving to Dwayne of Cambridge. Frith? vjm? - altho' I did like braticus primera, bop. Do you feel you could take on another Course Module? OK i'll play. is not Baby Cambridge also Baby Wales? I am invoking Celtic rules - I will make early apologies to Frith as I believe one of her sons has a welsh name
My favouritist ever is
Taliesin
But there could also be
Iorwerth
Ieuan
Glyndwr
Or a welsh tribute to uncle
Harri
Seriously, I wish they could be a bit "out there" and why not some of the lovely welsh names?
I would love it if they called him "Arthur" , both William and Charlie have that in their name and wouldn't it be cool to have a real King Arthur. Named after a character in Cabin Pressure, what more could he wantI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Waving hullo to the tailor whose shop is on my hike from car park to office. If he's concentrating, I don't disturb him, but I think we both enjoy the "hullo!" wave.
So Blinking Proud of sons who have All received awards from school - different numbers, different things & some fraternal bickering, ahem. Also serious three hanky Leavers Assembly as youngest leaves primary. Several of us mums blinking furiously at the idea that we won't be coming here any more. Sons vehement they don't want me to be a Governor at their big school, but I don't know how else to help them and keep all the other plates spinning!
Maybe not a pleasure but husband now in plaster cast & on preventative antibiotics for three weeks - relief is an odd pleasure. Work being unexpectedly helpful about leaving early on appointment days as well as startlingly generous with emergency leave while husband in hospital. My boss is a heroine.
General pleasure that there's another baby to croon over & there are two more newly-hatched parents learning to become a family. Trying not to let republicanism get me down - years ago I was a blitzed newly hatched mum & what scared the stuffing out of me then will probably be pretty similar no matter what rank & status & help is around.
Watching the lightening flare in brilliant lines across the morning, almost seeming to welcome the baby. (Almost felt like autumn, too, cool & dark.)
Admiring the neighbours roses & wondering if it would be cheeky to ask for six glorious blooms to make rose water with, and whether to offer an armful of fresh oregano to make herb vinegar with as an exchange.
Enjoyed a free coffee from Waitrose - blissfully simple, so it can't possibly last, but such a delightful treat while it does.
Sorting the family railcard, which means we can go & see a platoon of relatives at a family shindig for less than the petrol. Sons pretty ambivalent, but I think they *should* know who some of their relatives are & surely better to meet them amidst a horde of others than have them visit us at home?! Tidy bedrooms the least of their worries...
Trying Earl Grey with a squirt of lemon juice instead of milk. Very delicious & novel, & may well lead to less fridge usage (& associated milk pilfering).0 -
Grrrr, we won't be exchanging contracts on the house next Friday after all, but hopefully soonish....and now my s*dding solicitor has emailed to say he's going on holiday 'for a week or so', so probably beggar all will happen for a while.......eeeeeeek!!
1. Great last day at work, lovely presents, lots of hugs, beautiful flowers.
2. Two of the recruitment agencies I contacted re: temp work contacted me, one at 8am!!! so 2 appointments to register on Monday! Eeek! I would like a week off before I start uni, so need to get my thinking cap on.....
3. Sunshinebit less humid and hot today thank goodness!
4. DD had a lovely last day at school and is looking forward to a lie-in in the morning
5. My favourite dress has dried nicely on the line, ready for me to go out and partay tonight (well, ish!, Guiding do, so won't be too wild!!)
6. Hoorah! a friend has just called to offer me a lift tonight, so I shall have a glass of wine if I want to.
7. Have arranged a few fun things for DD and I to do over the next couple of days.
8. As I'm going to be in 'work mode' on Monday with these agencies, have packed a big bag full of work clothes to take up to my parents' house on Sunday in readiness......hope I won't get work straight away, but soon. contrary or what?!?
9. Sharing the last of some shortbread with DD, nomnomnom.0 -
