    Hi all,

Feeling a bit down, I always say I do not want to do Valentine's day, it is an American commercial invention etc... so I am finding it surprising and annoying (with myself mainly) that DH did not give me anything for today. Nor did I for the matter... am feeling confused by my own feelings of disappointment. But we have decided that we will do our own Valentine tomorrow instead.

Muppet81, you have inspired me to donate to the Trust, what a lovely thing to do, volunteering for these poor hens! I feel that my little donations will go a small way to make it up to the poultry race for just not being able to hack it as a vegan (still having the odd egg for breakfast I'm afraid...).

    Welcome pepsimax62!

Anyway, been away from this screen too long, here are my past and present OS pleasures:

    Saturday:

1 - As I said in my previous post, I had a nice outing with my morsbag accomplices from the Cool Crafters Morsbags Factory (our pod's name). It was great to give the bags to nice people but I was staggered at how many of the people in the street would just not accept one, even if free, some of them looked positively suspicious or even affronted! But the majority took them and were very pleased. The photographer from the Mercury took a lot of photos of us and the article will be out this week - will put it online if I can.

2 - After the Morsbags release, tea and hot cross buns with the girls at my house.

3 - Bought the Telegraph (for the Body Shop voucher) but found that if I ignore the political articles, which go against the grain, there is a lot of interesting stuff in the rest of the weekend paper.

4 - Short notice invite to my friend's birthday party in the evening with DH

5 - At the party I had a great time, the food (brought from all of us and shared) was lovely and the company exceptionally good, we had a great singalong (except for DH who, being the only man among a lot of rowdy ladies, looked like a hare caught in the headlights :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:).

6 - Got a lift back home so we did not have to face the cold damp night waiting for the bus.

    Today:

1 - Breakfast in bed courtesy of DH (nothing to do with Valentine, he always does this for me at weekends - perhaps I should stop obsessing about lack of tacky Valentine gift and instead concentrate on what good man I have for life, not just for 14th Feb!).

2 - Went with DH to Farmers market and got organic apples, including some really lovely looking cookers - I feel a crumble coming on soon!

3 - Bought the Sunday Telegraph for second Body Shop voucher, I need some more red lippy!

4 - In from the cold and onto the computer, nice cup of tea courtesy of DH, what a lovely simple but comforting pleasure!

5 - Having tried to book a film and restaurant and found that the film is fully booked we decided that we will do our own Valentine tomorrow instead. So there, sock it to the commercial stuff!:T

    Have a great evening all!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    1. DD had made me a lovely Valentine's card with what I thought were llamas drawn on it but were actually ponies, silly mummy ;) She loved my card too :)

    2. My lovely neighbour had a baby girl last night (and very quietly too, given that it was a home birth!). Can't wait to meet her and have a cuddle.

    3. My mum sent my dad down to pick DD up for half term holiday with a bag of goodies for me, some magazines and loads of cotton wool pads, I'll never run out now! Dad bought me a Sunday paper :) I feel nicely treated!

    4. Spent my £6 off £40 at Mr T voucher very wisely, including some party ring biccies (yum!!) and the plates/napkins for DD's party next month. I'm trying to get a few bits each time I go shopping rather than have a huge bill the day before!

    5. Bought DD some more Christmas presents of half-price bargains whilst I was out, a Ma$termind code game (well, Mr T's version thereof) and a make your own giraffe mosaic coaster which I'm sure she'll love. (Her birthday is already sorted, I must update my present list tonight!)

    6. Just back from a lovely sauna and swim and am feeling very relaxed :)

    7. Did a Reverbe and picked up a penny.

    8. Picked up 2 free DVDs from the Ma!l offer in Mr T's, so have slushy entertainment tonight.

    Evening all,

Hope the weekend has left you feel revitalised and ready for the week ahead.

    1) I went baking mad today and made orange drizzle cake - I think I drizzled a little too much as it is now rather soggy), chocolate brownies (to use up my cranberry sauce), condensed milk biscuits (half of which I have frozen) and choc chip cookies. I now have a headahce from eating so much cookie dough!

    2) I wandered over to the farmers market just after 2pm, hoping to pick up some real bargains. Alas they were all breaking down their stands and the people I wanted to buy from weren't there :( I have consoled myself with the fact that I really didn't need to buy anything since I have got a fully stocked freezer which will certainly last me until next month.

    3) Popped round to see my friends and drop of their wall paper stripper. It was nice to catch up with them as I don't see them nearly enough. I took them some of my baked goodies to say thank you for lending me the stripper.

    4) Going to dye my hair this evening to hide the grey in preparation for the fiming on Friday.

    5) All my washing is done in preparation for my cleaner coming tomorrow. My hoover is still broken though :(

Have a lovely week everyone - may the best of last week be the worse of next week.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
  • 1) A lie in. DS and his friend (the one we have nearly adopted - they are brothers on Facebook now, apparently) were playing guitars very quietly when we got up. Very considerate.
    2) The 50p ball of wool I found in the charity shop just did one circuit of the blanket I am crocheting. Also, I realised that a friend of mine sits in a cold house with her duvet over her knee to keep warm whilst watching telly. I think she would probably like one of my blankets for next Christmas, which solves the present dilemma nicely. We don't exchange much of value so I feel I have to be inventive. However, it will mean crocheting in blue and gold. I shall have to bear it.
    3) Coffee date. We were keeping out of the way whilst DS and his gf watched a film at our house. I managed to secure the house section of my favourite paper there and read it for free.
    4) Free nail polish. It came from a friend to DD and she had two, so she offered it to me.
    5) Hopefully, an evening out at a local restaurant which will qualify for our 15% discount card.
A sneaky 6) Finding Robin Hood Prince of Thieves at a charity shop for £1.99. I just love Alan Rickman as the Sheriff and it will make for a nice family film in the half term holidays.

    Happy Valentine's Day, everyone
  • Here are my five for the day/yesterday:

    1) Rediscovering an old fantasy book I love at the back of the bookcase. I'm now re-reading "To Green Angel Tower" and enjoying it. I must ask for the first two books of the series for Christmas.
    2) Making a batch of bolognese sauce for savoury pancakes on Tuesday night. I feel all domestically organised.
    3) Watching a bit of the Winter Olympics - particularly the luge. I can't believe how fast they go!
    4) A peaceful feeling right now after a bath. It helped the nasty itch I had (I think it was hot-aches or something) after a long walk we took today. It was horrible, but is subsiding now.
    5) Sausage casserole in the oven, with jacket potatoes occupying the other shelf. Simple, tasty and effective use of the oven. Result.

Well, another weekend nearly over. It's gone so quickly! We don't celebrate Valentine's Day either here, but it has still been a nice day. I just think of the money I save by not doing these things - not sure we're going to get anything for Easter either.

Hope everyone has a nice evening. Take care, all.

Good evening everyone. Hope you've all had a nice weekend.

    My five for today:

    1) It snowed! Not much, and not for long, but it was pretty while it lasted.

    2) Watching a series of blackbirds tucking into the apple I'd put out for them. (It was too bruised for me to eat, but they liked it.)

    3) Made a weetabix cake. I had to cook it for half an hour longer than the recipe said, so I hope it will be OK.

    4) I've felt really off-colour all day, so I've spent it being horribly lazy and sitting on the sofa watching sport. Laziness is seriously under-rated, I find. :o

    5) I don't feel up to cooking the pasta dish that was on my meal plan, so I've put a pot of soup on to cook and will have some with a roast pork sandwich. Not bad for a cba meal.

    Have a good evening, everyone.
Back after a very long break!

    Evening all,

Still feeling a it rubbish but mine for yesterday/today are
    1. Talking to a cousin on the phone about our family tree. This was very strange as even though I was aware of him I have never met or spoken to him before. We swapped email addresses though and said we will let each other know what we find out on the family tree.
    2. Joined the library yesterday - have spent today reading the book I got out
    3. OH buying me a lovely cake to have with a cup of tea yesterday
    4. OH buying me a dozen red roses today (they were the Tesco £5 ones so I can live with that:money:). We don't normally bother with Valentines so was a nice suprise.
    5. DD making me lots of hot drinks

Thats mine for now. Hugs to all who need them.

    Evening all,

Hugs to those that need them. Feeling a bit rougher this evening. Got a bit emotional about V.day. Honestly I could laugh at myself sometimes. We had a good day overall. Unfortunately my loved one was ill after eating something he knows makes him ill. You can probably see my gritted teeth! Hey-ho.

    1. Had an afternoon kip which lasted hours! I think I am very tired at the moment. It was nice and warm. Bliss.
    2. Eating a cheapie meal out (ok not OS) but it filled a gap.
    3. Finding a specialist dog food today which a friend had recommended. Our little blighter lives the life of riley!
    4. Thinking about my next declutter plan anc challenge. I've never been this focused before. I really hope I can achieve a time when, a friend knocks on the door and I say ooh come in! That day will come!
    5. Reading about cakes and baking and lovely food on here. Mmm.

    Night all.
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!"
Less things. Less stuff. More life.
