  • Another one shaking her head over the pergola decision here... and the sheer pettiness of some.

    1. More free toiletries from friend, including a pink grapefruit refill for the automatic hand wash dispenser. This was a competition prize last summer, it came with a cucumber hw that I've never really liked, which has refused to run out.

    2. Sister rang on mobile with problem with her landline - I felt awful as I was tied up with things, but sis in law sorted it for her.

    3. Two days running I have managed to speak to learners on the phone, so often they book calls and then somehow imagine that I will not call; my calls go unanswered.

    4. Posted off some self setting rubber (Sugro) to a friend so that she can mend her winter boots.

    5. My copy of Private Eye in the post, along with a brown envelope that was just a notification and nothing to worry about. For a change.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

So will alice get an offer from canada and if so will she go? And is jennifer talking about the investment or does she suspect about paul?

I thought Chris was unreasonnably reasonable. Will Lilian hit the rocks? If so, will she still be Matt's pusscat or will he be gone in a cloud of dust?

Hugs to all who need them. It's a mad world.
    1. Evening out with good friend, world now firmly set to rights
    2. not too busy a day, appreciating a gentler pace
    3. DSs summer school application in, phew, deadline almost 24 hours away ;)
    4. very fruitful trip to H0me B@rgains for stuff we don't need (so it has to be cheap)
    5. Reheated Cold weather hotpot for tea, result
    Gnight all

Had to chuckle at the fire warden chicken, he got all officious but you got more so! Well done you, can't abide these jobsworths
Pleased you've got DS's uni sorted out now mhags.
VJsmum hope you enjoyed your shjopping trip, you extravangant woman!
    cat enjoy your day off
RD hope autogl@ss turned up on time, they did mine some time ago and were very efficient, and friendly
ampersand, I can only reiterate what everyone else has said :(. Hope today's Spits is a success for you, no less than you deserve
PK I hope it doesn't get as far as court, when they see how stupid they've been they could well drop the issue altogether - but don't expect an apology, we only pay their wages, after all :p
Kittikins what a nice surprise the £50 was. Hope you had a good evening painting the village red :D
BoP Happy 1st anniversary to Jenny
CCP sending get well vibes for your poor foot. Cyclists should only be allowed on the roads when there's no motor traffic about :p
Frith 8th Feb figures strongly in my family too. Life is full of coincidences, some stranger than others. I can imagine you felt very alone at that time, so I'm glad I posted when I did :)
nuttybabe well done your DD, clever girl!
(((Hugs))) katholicos, hope you feel a little stronger tomorrow.
DD congrats on the cost of the hairdresser, that's a real bargain
Welcome Erosgirl, another fan of Mrs Brown's Boys, I think it's hilarious!
mcculloch I'm pleased your brown envelope wasn't anything awful. I got one today with next year's tax code, not that I understand how they work these things out
caroline what is it about these cheapy shops? We live for x years without something quite happily but when it's only a £ or so we can't live without it any longer!

    1. On call overnight last night but didn't get woken once, a lovely change.
    2. Took non-driver neighbour to the shops
    3. Made 3 doz fruit and spice scones to take to meeting this evening. Came home with an empty container so I think they all enjoyed them
    4. Searching for car insurance, so far I've found 4 companies with like for like but considerably cheaper than my renewal quote so will be preparing to haggle tomorrow
    5. So many lovely, moving posts on here this evening they made me goose-bumpy. Thank you

    Sweet dreams :)

Morning all - I love half term, 7.30 and I'm still in bed and not running round like a BAF! :D
Katholicos - it is 3 years since I lost my mum. Some days it feels as raw as it did the first day and sometimes I can remember and smile. Fortunately the latter days do outweigh the former now and I know she would approve. Your mum is right, life is for living and I know my mum expected me / us to carry on and live it to the full. Hard though, sometimes, isn't it?
BoP - wise words. Happy birthday Jenny
Ampersand - commiserations on the lovely pergola. We had a neighbour once complain about a fence we'd put up to shield the caravan. We know it was her as both identical letters were sent to our house from the council :rotfl: I think she was rather miffed when we subsequently were granted retrospective planning permission.:D
Kittikins - enjoy the singing dishwasher. What's it's signature tune? I'm forever blowing bubbles?
    Welcome Erosgirl

    so yesterday
    1. Another lie in, welcome after the Tamworth had kept me up in the night with his snores. Thank goodness for having a spare room. he has agreed to start weightwatchers as I am sure that has made the snoring worse. Though he said he would sign up "Just after I finish this cake"
    2. Did the bicarb and bleach trick on the grouting so it is all shiny clean again.
    3. Shopping with DD - I did buy socks, but also a shirt and jumper. Did my usual thing in Holl!ster of walking in, stretching my arms in front of me yelling "I've gone blind, I've gone blind" as it is sooooo dark in there. DD loves that - NOT :rotfl:
    4. She got a cardi in there in the sale for £11 - about 1/4 of the usual price. I do think the place is a bit of a racket (literally as well as metaphorically, it is also LOUD in there!), but don't mind for £11
    5. Watched the Brits with DS - at 13 there isn't much he wants to do with mum but he will do football and trains with dad and music with mum. Still hoping we might get Glasto tickets.

Work today - BOOOO, a training session on personal tutoring (deep joy :p), an extra lecture to usual and then my normal late slot. It is also a 2 day of the 5:2 diet so i can't even munch my way through it.

    Have a good one all
I wanna be in the room where it happens

    Sparrer what a late posting!

Well , we are having a storm and a half...there has just been the loudest clap of thunder I've ever heard in my life! Torrential rain for past 3 hours....I had just got back to my car in time when it started. We really need the rain and looking at the week aheads forecast we will be having lots of stormy weather!

    1. Well apart from dealing with a load of crap from a co- worker which really p'd me off today .....there were some nice moments at work. I had asked my manager to email everyone with a reminder of what some of my duties are and that they are also responsible for doing certain duties .....some people just like to look pretty, be chatty and not get hands dirty!

Manager suggested to a certain moody staff member that she should check her emails as there was plenty of stuff to be done.....oh yeah! She'd already seen it .....and still didn't do what she had been asked to do.....I almost kind of lost it!! So was asked to take my break!!!

On my break I sat and watched swallows flit around and a magpie finch jump up and down trying to catch a dragon fly....not sure why he didn't just fly after it! Yesterday , out on the grass lawn in front of my work , a water sprinkler was on going round in a circle....a wee duck sat and enjoyed the spray every time it came found to him. Made me smile!

So I was becalmed by the birds and returned to work in a calmer mood!

    2. I use the phrase ' sweaty Betty' a lot at work. I'm always perspiring in the heat..not in a smelly way I quickly add, so use the phrase a lot! Anyway , new girl has started called Betty.....having stopped myself saying it several times I ended up telling her I might say it but it was not about her! She told me it was okay as that's what her boyfriend calls her :)

    3. Home and sat with DD1 and listened to the heavy rain, we all love the sound of rain( a homely sound!) chatted with her and then a drookit child came home from her show rehearsal....DD2 was absolutely soaked through!

    4. Made French toast for me and girls tea and OH and Ds having chicken Korma , using defrosted chicken!

    5. Had a quick chat with my sister this morning updating her on my OH. I do love my sister and do miss her. I have unlimited international calls with my new mobile provider.

Well I'll be glad when this working week is over...one more day to go!

Enjoy your Thursday , take care and keep smiling :)

    Welcome erosgirl
mcculloch do you think sugro would work on my ikea cracked kitchen counter? Ironically it cracked the same week oh told me about her imminent affair, and the watch she gave me 14 years ago broke the good news is we seem to be mending the marriage :D
mhags i love the rain as well, long as i'm either safely in the dry or on my way home. I used to love dancing in the rain barefoot - very mse

5.Seems to be all I'm doing. No luck getting through to planning today, so far[Duty Officer 10-12 only, so further em's sent.] No Spits either. Bad timing during prescription collection yesterday meant Dr S spotted me and his quick 'Come in for a moment' in view of forecast and his m.o.t.meant NO. Didn't dare include yet another moan in hier's free-range 5.
Just hearing forecast now with words like 'extreme', 'bitter', 'isolated snow flurries bearing in increasingly' for this area.

Here's a 6. Cabin Fever already, so hooray! for lovely em from library. Sod it! I'm going to bus in on the 14.04h and collect Clare Balding's book. Better emerge from squat - against orders? Tant mieux.

  • Ampersand you are welcome to share the comfort food, it’s actually a rare dish that turned out better than expected.:)
Sparrer, if it’s not to nosey to ask what are you on call at nights for?
Not feeling so well today so caved to some painkillers, I feel like it should be feeling a lot better by now, and being honest both DH and I are starting to feel a bit fraught.:(
    There are pleasures
    1. The painkillers worked, and although it was very slow I tidied up, hovered and did clean bedding.:)
    2. Just started to read night circus on kindle its a fantastic read so far.
    3. Made a delicious and simple bacon sandwich for lunch.:D
    4. Took the plunge and bought myself a maxi dress from abroad on ebay, as it looks lovely so will have to see how delivery goes.
    5. Simple cheese omelette for dinner later
