It's a funny old life...
1) MrN did indeed come round bearing his cat travelling box last night. And he came in the house. And he had a cup of tea. He stopped for about 45 minutes. Was strange to have him back here but I wittered on regardless. He talked about his sons, his work and his journey to work. And that was about it. Everything in his life is exactly as it was when I started going out with him. It is chaos. But there is nothing I can do about it anymore. :-( And he looks so old, all of sudden. He is 12 years older than me so I suppose technically he is getting old now.
2) Not a bad sleep. Couldn't even stay awake to watch Holby!
3) Sister took me to town this morning and smallest cat got neutered. She is fine and crashing round upstairs sulking about not being let outside! (Cat, not sister).
4) Sister bought me some breakfast to say thank you for cleaning her house before a viewing the other day. While we were in town, the agent phoned to see the lady wants a second viewing and to take her parents! So looking hopeful.
5) Came back and typed up 90 pages of dissertation. :-/ That took nearly 3 hours.
6) Tidied up more and cleaned all the shoes and walking boots.
7) Back to vets to collect the cat. :-)
8) Brother came (is still here watching the football) and fitted my cupboard doors and drawers fronts for me. I went to town to get a Chinese takeaway for us both.
9) Just got dad's new car insurance quotes (through Quidco too) so got his van insurance down from £323 to £189.0 -
VJsmum you sound a real nutcase
Would love to go shopping with you, it would be a riot !!
mhags had a rotten night hence the late/early post. Don't you just love the types who look busy all day and achieve nothing for their 'efforts' Sounds a bit like that magpie finch, it just makes hard work for itself!
DD/mhags, sitting in our tourer with hot cups of tea, playing board games with the kids and the smell of a roasting chicken coming from the oven while the rain plays the drums on the roof, that's so cosy
ampersand do look after yourself, not worth pushing to the edge and making things worse. The more you take your time the quicker you'll be out and about again.
Tealady I agree, first class travel and hotels are lovely but there's nothing like coming back to earth with homely food, which in my case is a cheese'n'pickle toastie
PK another of my favourite foods, bacon sandwich, but haven't had one for far too long. It's free food day tomorrow so that's lunch sorted. I do two on-call nights a week for the fellowship I belong to, the phones are manned 24/365 for people who need any help and support we can give.
BoP go easy on the cream cakes, don't want to expand Jenny's waistline
nuttybabe well done on the bird boxes, there'll be some happy feathered families taking up residence soon
chicken never thought to put mandarins in a curry, sounds interesting. I should think you'll survive, I opened a 2009 jar of korma recently and I'm still here. So far....
Skint banana muffins
Kittikins love your 1-100, you're always so much brighter when DD is around
1. Managed about three hourssleep off and on after the last post
2. A cold morning but had the windows open for a couple of hours
3. The peace lily I was bought at NY and which started to die back has got five new flowers coming up
4. Long siesta this afternoon
5. Booked a table for lunch with friends on Sunday, the manager phoned this afternoon and has offered to open the conference suite dining room as there will be at least 14 of us
In bed and hoping for a better night, sweet dreams0 -
Erosgirl, so good to have you with us
VJsmum, so sorry to read of the loss of your Mum (((hugs)))
It is true what you say, about the pain, and that eventually, it becomes easier to think of our dear loved ones who have passed on. We honour the memory of our loved ones when we go on with our lives, even though it may be a real struggle.
Mhags, thanks for sharing your little ducky story, made me smile too!
Tealady, comgrats to your friend on the safe arrival of her beautiful newborn baby :j
My 5 for today:
1. Got out of the house!
2. We dropped DD's car off for its MOT and the repairs cost less than £200 including the £45 MOT charge and vat. Phew! Better still, my mum has said she will pay for it.
3. Went shopping with DD afterwards and we got lots of fruit and some veg. We have decided to introduce smoothies into our eating habits and tonight we made a really nice one with berries, banana, apples, an orange and a kiwi fruit. Yum!
4.....as nice as the smoothie was, i have just eaten near,y a whole packet of gingernut biscuits...
5. We got home to find the heating has stopped working. Phoned the landlord, they sent someone out at almost 10pm which is good because it could have been anytime in the next 24 hours! And it is temporarily up and running and the proper repair, which is teeny apparently, will be done sometime tomorrow. Yay for warmth!Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

VJsmum you sound a real nutcase
Would love to go shopping with you, it would be a riot !!
Why thanksThat's the nicest thing anyone has said
(I am taking it as a compliment!!
) I do endeavour to be quite an embarrassing parent, it's payback time!! I do moan quite a lot when we are shopping, I am like an impatient toddler "I'm BORED, can we go now", "I want coffeeeee", "It's HOW MUCH???" And don't even get me started on loud music, rude shop assistants (especially if they are chewing gum, really don't get me started on chewing gum, like a bunch of vacant cows chewing the cud with a glazed look on their face). Still wanna come? :rotfl:
Katholicos - glad you enjoyed the smoothie. Despite me being quite into stuff like that, for some reason I can't abide smoothies.
Frith - sounds like you are over MrN if you can exchange pleasantries without a pang.
Erosgirl - do you wanna do my washing and ironing? What a nice sister you are, my brother would be on his own. Mind you I've got 4 brothers so I'd start something if i did the washing for one.
DD - singing bin :rotfl: Did you tell it that it had the wrong day.
Chicken - Yes, I have seen the doorway to A and F. And the queues that form outside it. DD would like to go in but I'm not queuing outside a shop. I probably spend about that on food shopping  But there are 4 of us and DS has hollow legs.
So, yesterday.
1. Lazy morning - still loving half term.
2. DD came into work with me, held me to ransom at a cash point and went for more shopping with the proceeds. She was a bit shocked when I asked for receipts :rotfl: She bought herself an extremely flattering skater style dress though.
3. Did a seminar with a group I have only taught once before. I was warned on Monday that they were a terrible group to teach, but on Monday they were ok. Yesterday, though, I had written "Law for designers" at the top of the powerpoint underneath which I had written their task. When I came back into the room to discuss the task, i saw someone had crossed out "for designers" and put "Law is Gay" instead. So I promptly wrote "Discuss" after it and made them have the discussion :rotfl: The rest of the group were not happyThat'll learn em!!
4. DD has a date  She has had a facebook exchange with a boy from school and they are going to the cinema together next week. Here we go....
5. OH didn't go to choir practice so he did the two child shuffle - lots of pick ups in the dark and cold. :T
Day off for me too today. I am having a teenage invasion tonight so need to stock up the fridge. Have a good day all.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Sparrer, I certainly am brighter with DD around, especially when she says lovely things like "Before I was born and I was up in Heaven with all the other babies looking down at the women who wanted to be mummies, I saw you and thought to myself 'she has the makings of a fine mummy' and so I chose you"
Still wriggles like an eel when she's in my bed though! I nearly got up to sleep in hers in the middle of the night but stoically endured it as after all, it's my bed and it was nice and snuggly and warm :0)0 -
Why thanks

No problems at all VJsmum, I'm very used to embarrassing shoppers. When the girls were teens (and taller than me but that's not difficult) we'd be walking through a shopping centre, one each side of me, and suddenly DD1 would say, very loudly 'Oh no! Please not the cellar tonight Mum!' while looking very panicked . It then went something like this...
DD2 'The cellar?! That means she's not giving us any food again!'
DD1. 'Oh no, I can't bear it! My stomach always hurts so much with hunger!'
(this is where I'd try to walk away but their arms would be firmly linked through mine )
DD2. Please Mum, please give us something to eat this week, just a crumb, pleeeeeeeease!'
DD1 'Should we call Social Services again?'
DD2' They never took any notice last time...ooh can I have that pair of shoes? I haven't had shoes since I was 5 and they're so tight now!' as she started to walk with a very painful-looking gait
...and so it went on. Fortunately most people, seeing these two big girls with their little Mum struggling to get away, saw the funny side of it but there were a few very horrified glares, I was always looking over my shoulder for the Police
So yes, I reckon I could cope
Kittikins that's beautiful, your DD is such a sweetheart
Erosgirl I love the amitrip story, sums it up perfectly
BoP have a huggy weekend with the Mrs
Time to get off my backside and do somethings to this pit I call a home, back later with my 5. Have a good day, stay warm0 -
1. Coming here because struggling atm, so reading pleasures is one.
2. Just spoke with Planning. Decent person, will try what can be tried within 'no front garden development' constraints, about which I was never informed, despite querying all in detail before anything began. Email covering discussion promised, so evidential trail continues.
3. Gloomy day, lit and fig. L. back to work on covered area out back and saw troublemaker cross road to house alongside - on a pretext, in order to peer out their toilet window into my property, overhear L. and I discussing things. Saw her and face disappeared instantly.
4. How I hate all of this. It brings back R's suicide fully - and Planning was aware of this, raised it[my name is there in relation to all that went before when we owned/ran sth and built new house]with horror. I can't list this as a pleasure, but that I even set these words down is something. Why can't people let each other be?
5.Katholicos, like you I am big Thermos fan. Did so last night, needed hot milk and honey alongside.
6. About to take sth to post, then Dr and Addenbrookes.
As I wrongly thought ruggery was on last w/e, I still have it to enjoy this w/e.
I'd better take a dose of Mother Julian myself.
Enjoy your tgif's everyone:-)CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Good afternoon all !
ampersand (( hugs)) to you xx
sparrer- we are clearly made of strong stuff then ! Hate to waste out of date stuff !
VJsmum- re A&F agree about the queues ! It reminds me of Quasar game inside all dark and weird floor levels . Burlington Arcade is near though :DLast time I went it was peeing with rain, I fell over and took two Germans down with me and gained a huge hole in my new jeans and a bloody knee.I won't be rushing back ...
Skintos -not got dried out eye balls yet then with Amytriptyline ?? Can't abide the stuff - a junior aspirin would floor me though:o

5 for today
1. Day off
2. Hair cut, but my lovely young hairdresser told me that she may have cervical cancer , she will find out more next week. She was clearly in bits , but managing to hold it together somehow. I remember that "life and death" ill health stuff a bit too well . My thoughts are with her and her family who are probably all on "autopilot" at the moment too
3.Been to some shops to look for a couple of wheel backed chairs which will go with my antique pine dining table. Saw some - I am not going to pay that price though .May now look on Fleabay .
4.Going to have a go a making some Cornish pasties and "Quornish" one for me and my sister.
5.Dognapped the tiny terrier when we got back from the shops as Mum was out
Have a good day all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Just my five for today:-
1. Cleaned house all the way through and gave the shower an extra good scrubbing from the limescale. Cillt Bang is marvellous

3. Got some washing done but it is sitting on the clothes airer in the kitchen.
4. Had a nice cup of tea this afternoon while browsing on here.
5. Loving that walking around the house and having it so clean and tidy feeling.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:
