I'm starting my old-style pleasures with two just read here, which make me feel happy.
    1. Mhags is back in Saturday Scone mode.
    2. Well done pk - you're in perfect autumn-forage/stock-up/preserve time with your ebay capture. The freed-up funding when something like this happens is a wonderful boost.
    3. Looking for exit 32 on a certain road, saw 30, then 29..AAAGHHHH!!!...so had to come back via another overhead roundabout. As I filtered right for circling, down plummeted a heron!!! It was unconcerned, unlike the oncoming car+elderly driver. He swerved, meaning I had to brake, as heron landed on road and stalked onto grassy verge of roundabout. It carried on with its beaky, diggy business and we drove on. I've never seen heron behaviour like this before, so close, amid heavy traffic, over the dreaded A14. One or two do flap over the back field chez moi from time to time though.
    4. I went on wronger and wronger after that, but somehow made it to Destination Jumble for 11h, where things went rather well. My 50p bedroom curtains have gone straight up, blackout-backed, lined AND brand new. I can't even switch the sewing machine on for those pennies. Found another table-lampshade for France as requested - 15 wanted!
    5. Bought Direly Torygraph, rather than Grauniad today, in order to have giveaway NT owl motif shopping bag free from Waitrose. Nice boy gave me two!
    6. I'd posted a ? on Preservers' Year Thread about non-set pepper jelly, but no response by late afternoon return, so googled, only to read many answers saying pepper jelly can take 6 weeks to truly gel! I've just boiled mine up for another 30 mins and now have 7 good-looking jars upside down out in mini-greenhouse. Fingers crossed for them by morning.
    7. Variants of asian-style chicken dishes prepared for freezer, using poule roasted the other day. Carcass mulching nicely for soup.
    8. I have finished this in easeful time to be in bed, have tea, WATCH MONTALBANO, which always catches me by lovely surprise being on Saturday. I think I expect it to be a Sunday-ish thing.

Bonne nuit. Hoping for soft airs and sunshine demain. Wishing plenty of what you fancy to all who read and need here - especially you, kitchenbunny, over whom the fairy wand of this magical Thread now hovers.

We've had some lovely Welcomes Back, Shiny New Ones and Continuing Recovery news on several fronts this week. OS Pleasures absolutely and all the better for being on here.

  • 1) Went to see DD at Uni today as DS had an Open Day nearby. I definitely had the best of it - DD and I went for a short walk in the sunshine, browsed a cs and had a lovely chat over coffee while DS and DH were sitting through a lecture.
    2) Met DD's bf at lunch. £60 for 5 of us, stuffed full, which I found amazing.
    3) Favourite magazine was on the doormat when we got home.
    4) Now picking at some of MIL's walnuts. They have a prolific tree and always remember us when they harvest.
    5) Phone call from DD's former bf's Mum. She's a lovely woman and we have a lot in common. She has continued to save jam jars for me and it's a good excuse to meet. I'm going over soon.

    1. Lisa Riley and Robin Windsor's cha cha on Strictly. Never seen her television programme but I'll be watching her on Strictly, it was so energetic and such fun to watch :D
    2. Receipt from the curtain pole seller, they've waived the p&p fee as I ordered three from them.
    3. Gave a talk at a meeting this morning, I think it was successful as there were lots of constructive questions afterwards and it overran by 45 mins. Always good to have interest from newcomers, the trick is to hold their interest so they want to keep coming back
    4. After approx two hours I managed to get a very temperamental printer to print so now have a healthy pile of literature to distribute. The cuss box is also looking very healthy :o
    5. Sorted through my cash box and found some currency to give a friend who is going to Asia after the C-word, and some euro's for my trip to Barcelona in 12 days time.

    Sleep well :)

    5. Nice tea - chicken left over from sunday made into a pie by adding some veg and a tin of condensed mushroom soup. Just for chicken I wrote Yummy Pie on top in pastry letters.

That brought back a memory of 27 years ago when we were financially challenged for a few months. I made pilchard squares for lunch one Sunday. These are mashed pilchards and onions baked between two sheets of home-made shortcrust pastry. Sounds not so nice but was very tasty. On the pastry I wrote SUNDAY JOINT.

    1. Made laundry gloop which is cooling as I type.
    2. Had a packet of German salami to use up, which cost the princely sum of 40p as it was short-coded. It topped a bargain basement 'meat feast' pizza, 75p in Heron. Half of this left for tomorrow.
    3. Sorted out the bathroom and threw out bottles of DS's toiletries that were more or less empty. He buys new, but never ever throws out the old. They were all recycled.
    4. Sorted out a build up of junk mail that I'd continually put to one side in hallway and was horrified to see how much there was. Found 50p under the mail. All mail recycled.
    5. Exchanged texts with friend.
    6. Daughter gave me a lovely bunch of gladioli as a thank you for childcare.

I was expecting August's remittance (paid 30 days in arrears) in my account on Friday but no sign, no doubt it was the glitch that was mentioned on here. So another few NSDs.

    Get well soon, Skint
McC hope the Pilchard Joint WAS nicer than it sounds! I think my cut out letters were worth the fortune I paid for them - such fun!
Sparrer - you are an inspiration,
Thanks to everyone for your pleasures - I love to read them.

    Yesterdays

    1. Open day - fewer students for us than we would like. I think we should be targetting schools as most people of 17 / 18 haven't heard of our professions. Good Craic with colleagues though and a day in lieu earned
    2. Yummy panini for lunch in a deserted cafe with huuuge windows looking out to the sunshine (and the derelict car park but we'll gloss over that)
    3. DD was bliddy good as Dorothy - and sang beautifully. I hate "Rainbow" with a passion - and so does she - but you would never have known it. Proud mummy moment.
    4. Nipped out between the two performances for tea in weatherspoons - blimmin good value at £20 for 4 meals and drinks.
    5. Hall stairs and landing now replastered - just got to get the painters back.

I will be spending today glued to the keyboard for as long as it takes to obtain Glastonbury tickets - or until they all run out whichever is sooner. Wish me luck and have a good day all
I wanna be in the room where it happens

mcculloch eww pilchards but ingenious! :T
As skint says, definitely an M thing, my son did just the same. I open every bottle, tube, packet, jar etc., attacking them with scissors or whatever else it takes to open them. I will not throw away a sniff of anything I've paid for!
Skint poor you, sounds horrid - get well now
VJsmum what is it about Rainbow, it annoys me so much?! Unless it's the Eva Cassidy version, she made it sound much more interesting :)

Supposed to be getting ready for the day but a friend put a silly sheep game on fb and I'm still sitting here an hour later! Kick up the b*m and off the sofa needed

    Have a superdooperabbyfandabbydozy day :D

oops - consider me gone to get dressed, and you to your plot of green and pleasant land :o

    !!!!!!!
  • Good morning all !

    Skint - get well now!

    VJsmum - clever DD x

    KB - welcome back !

PK - well done with the fleabay bargain ! hope you get your wages soon x

    Mcculloch-:rotfl:

    5 for yesterday

    1. Slept in

    2. OH said he went out for a fag in the garden at 4am under the eaves in pitch darkness and a fox jumped on to the fence right next to him - it scared the carp out of him and the fox so he did the Daffy Duck noise and startled fox fell off the fence - which then woke the hens up !

    3. My neighbour has just returned from her holiday - she doesn't speak a work of English and we swapped eggs and cooking apples for a cake that she had brought back from her holiday. I said "Madeira cake??" she said "No I haff beeeen to Madeira " . Wow its really heavy on the old molasses but nice

    4. The above got me thinking and we may go on a last minute deal to Madeira. I have set a budget as OH is not working so I will be funding it - I don't feel particularly generous when we don't go "Dutch" for some reason ;)

5.Went to the theatre with my Mum to see a play based on one of Dickens "Ghost Stories " it was good , my Mum fell asleep and a member of the audience had a phone that went off - which the cast included "tongue in cheek" in the play . One of the main character was the Doctor in Downton - tall distinguished looking chap .. who I wouldn't kick out of bed for eating crackers ....:D;)

    6. The seats were designed for people below 3ft in height so it was sooo uncomfortable and played havoc with my back .So got home and fell asleep all through Merlin:mad:

Have a good day all !
:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A
