1/ staying in bed and leaving DH and sons to get themselves ready.
2/ starting my day with a nice bath.
3/hearing that a certain smug Mr T had got his comeuppance. I don't suppose it was solely because I've been boycotting him since losing faith in his customer service last Summer but all the same...
4/making a fruit crumble for tea, although I cheated with a tin of pie filling that m-i-l sent about 18 months ago. It still met with my menfolk's approval.
5/ feeling bits I haven't felt for ages at my second evening of pilates. If I'm in pain tomorrow then I know I'm on the right lines even though I yawn all the way through it.

I hope you've all had a good day.

(((Hugs))) to all who need one.

    My five for Thursday:

    1. Having a little lie in this morning, starting to skim through one of my art books.

2, Another NSD and £1 in the pot.

    3. Having a really nice phone call with a friend.

    4. Beautiful, pale apricot and misty, three-quarter moon tonight.

    5. Humous with slices of apple to dip in it for lunch. I really like the combination.

    Sweet dreams

Chickenopolis I thought you had a log burner? Its sad really; my late parents never understood what I liked; they couldnt understand wanting an open fire or log burner they said it was dirty and caused work; the veg plot wasnt appreciated that much and the horses were money-pits and I should-grow-out-of-it and endess talks trying to get me to sell my [then] horse. Its sad because everyday I wished I could share with them what I feel about all this; its my life ;what I like; I guess they just didnt "do"country life. I still have pangs of guilt and think I'm doing the wrong thing; that I shouldnt be a housewife living in the countryside with all the mud [LOL] etc etc but that I should be a proper suburban "Margot". I think that would have pleased them. I would love to have been able to pleased them and been accepted. I suppose I should let go and move on;enjoying fully what I have striven for and achieved. Difficult when I have only memories of being "told off" for it.

oldtractor - this is very sad :( and I am sorry that you were not able to share your pleasures with your parents . I recall that my mum thought that I would "grow out of it " , and was miffed about the mud, straw and tack lying around .Plus I would ride my pony bare back in my school uniform :):) As I was the only one in the family "like this" I got stick from other relatives too. My Dad sold his air rifle to buy my first pony ( as he could never bring himself to kill rabbits :)) then it was up to me to fund it all . No mean feat for a 13 year old , field rent, shoes ,feed etc. I then went into the racing industry and by this time it was all "you should be a farmers wife" etc. But you can't force square pegs in to round holes, a court shoe life was never going to be on the cards and time has proved this - Old tractor you have found what makes you happy and never feel guilty for that x

sparrer-I am sorry for your loss x

I think my parents also thought I would "grow out of it", but I now realise how lucky I was, in that they drove me to the yard, around the shows/to and from PC and endured sitting in the car for hours, or shivering at the side of the ring, with the Pony Club Mummies. They have never "got" it, but they have always been fully supportive of "it". Even today, they are going out to lunch, then insisting on coming to the yard to give me a hand afterwards; tomorrow morning, they are getting up at 6.30, to help me do the yard for Mrs Ponycarer. It helps that they are outdoors people, but they have never been "horsey". I think my mum (who is v glam) occasionally despairs of me being such a scruffy little madam and being far more at home in Jods and wellies than dressy clothes and also that financially we (as in me and OH) would be far better off if it weren't for livery bills, etc. But I have tried her way and it just wasn't me :)

Chicken- that was certainly no mean feat for a 13year old, but just shows how dedicated you were

I am very lucky to have such supportive people around me though and I will tell them all that when I next see them.

    xx

Morning all - much inner warmth and reflection gained from re-reading the series of posts above.

Square pegs in round holes?.......Founder Member from instant of birth, moi:D - and although we have affinities, we are each in our Club of One. Eventually we learn it's an okay thing. Doesn't mean we're isolationists, just the opposite in fact. We are empathists, because we recognise those footprints, but don't seek to scrub them out or second-step in them.
Of course, some would say[wrongly]that we're merely paid-up Members of The Awkward Squad, but that's one I relish, too.

    Right.

    1. Is it Spring? Watched two Monsieur Merles !!!!-fighting out back as I enjoyed 1st tea. They were also trying to defend bread in beaks with mixed results. Breakage had them torn, whether to keep attacking rival, or retrieve bonne bouche. In even these tiniest of exchanges, we see age-old instincts at work, setting up another trail of Gazing Out Window Morning Drift, with Tennyson's 'Nature red in tooth and claw' dichotomy playing out.
    2. I gaze beyond my roses, which are just stunning. Several are really opening now, holding so well, scent filling kitchen and lobby. I will take a picture of them and show at Charity next week.
    3. Seeing yesterday's thick mushroom soup[they'd started re-growing in fridge], beef casserole made with bottle of good Buzet - minus one small glass:D-, peculiar leftover apples stuffed and baked in loaf tin with freezer runaway raspberries[goodness knows which year]and some crumbly mix pressed on[it is delish]and over a kilo of butter made from rtc cream sitting there.....all ready to portion and freeze.
    4. Today might be the day......dare I?.......dare I? when I put airfare savings into Mr T, in order to book Qantas flight and have dbl points with CC+ to boot....for only a month's time:eek::eek::eek:!!! Had no idea it might be soooo soon, but sth tells me I should.
3......and may also buy this, to see me around and up and down from airport:
    https://nakedbus.com/nz/passport/?p=bookapass
    4. ...which means I eventually got ebaying again. Only 7, but more will be done for Sunday night. Again, hours of research and getting bogged down on single objêts. I really am just hopeless and today need to zip into the Fitzwilliam and also see M re: a couple of things. I value his input. Benin currency bangle - fabulous thing, weighs just on a kilo!, lots of age[>2/300 years-ish] and some amazing ?ivory? art nouveau somethings. All found in France in summer. Must do all possible to boost savings - as sheds still call, but need sustained good weather and my gardiennage during undercover storage interregnum.
    5. Just see time and want 1st Bus into town:eek:- a npd, please. Not even dressed, despite being up since silly clocks.

A soothing day to all, with sunshine.
    ##############
Will catch next bus...........got caught up listening to a man speaking about a wonderful Art teacher he'd had.....the sort of teacher EVERYONE should have, but he wouldn't pass muster these days. Do catch it on i-player R5 if you can.

  • My 5 for Thursday - where does the time go?
    1. A low petrol day as didn't have to do the long drive this morning, hopefully will eek until next week out of what's left
    2. Despite a chaotic start - reached work on time and happy everyone was oblivious to how disorganised I felt, regained myself and felt very good in the end
    3. In a rush after work everyone seemed to move aside to let me through, all lights changed in perfect time and the pharmacy (was in rush to reach it before it closed) sorted a prescription out in record time - unheard of normally.
    4. Tea worked out! I'd prepared in advance and told DH to turn oven on at 2 so it was tender for 430 - he remembered (which is amazing first off), then to come home to home cooked meal and be done and dusted in good time was a lovely feeling
    5. Spending some lovely time with the kids before bed and hearing DD talk about the important things in her life - oh to be 4!

    Enjoy Friday :)
    Debt - CCV £3792
CCB £1383 (took a hit for a holiday)

    Loan 1 £1787
    Loan 2 £1683
    Total £8601 Was £39302
  • Morning all.
Some lovely posts above, and as Ampersand wrote, very reflective :)

Sparrer - hugs to you, and so sorry to hear about your aunt.
Broomstick - hummous and apple? I'm on it!
Scotrae - what happened with Mr T? I haven't heard...
    Chicken - ((hugs))

    My 5 pleasures for yesterday:

    1. OH came back from footie with a present of 2 x photos in frames of me with my family to put in my new office. (They were awful pictures of me but I would never have had the heart to say!! So up they went)

    2. Like Tealady, my finances are in better health than I expected

    3. Managed to find a good deal (after lots of comparisons) for pet insurance for my cats. And £20 off via Topcashback :money:

    4. Also booked my cats in for their jabs. I rang around and found a vets that do them much cheaper than the fancy big place we used to take them.

    5. A lovely quiet half hour after work, my OH gone out, in the living room with the candles burning, with my little cats curled up round me.

oldtractor - sounds like a perfect day, I find poo picking oddly therapeutic and I do like the sense of satisfaction when it's done :) I even do my friend's for her when I go to see her. Oldie likes to "help" too, but unfortunately, her version of helping involves tipping the wheelbarrow over!!

    Mine for today

    1. Mini lie in, then got up and caught up with some house stuff- washing/animals/paperwork/sorting
    2. Cooked pork, chorizo and butterbean stew for dinner and prep'd the roasted veg, so easy dinner tonight :)
    3. Went to the yard for a pootle; Dug up a couple of straw beds and have left them up to dry. whipped oldie's rug off and we sat, drinking tea, watching her graze (and have a good roll) in the sunshine. Bliss!!
    4. OH has been standing in a queue all afternoon, in an attempt to get John Bishop tickets at our local teeny theatre at £15/each. I do like him and it will be good to see him in a small venue, but I do doubt his sanity standing there all that time. He has just texted to say that he will def get tickets, but he is starving :)
    5. Have just been making some sugarcraft sheep for our farmer friend's birthday cake. They do look like sheep, which is a start and it was nice to just have a play with fondant icing

Hope everyone has had a happy Friday :) and has a lovely weekend. Hugs to all in need xx
