Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wed 28th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning.
I get to start a threat for a change. It's still early but I was lying in bed thinking that I had woken up at 4, but my watch was on duel time and so it was really 5, Don't feel so bad now.
3 days off, and so I hope to go to an auction today. I am looking for a table and chairs for my conservatory, some drawers and whatever other junk might be there.
My son is upset as someone stole his phone from the changing room at work. It was a touch screen type with lots of stuff on it. What do you do with people who steal stuff? I dislike them a lot.
Spent too much in Asda on curry stuff and wine, but it was a nice meal all the same..
Have a good day.

Morning OS friends!
N9eav - ooh that is clever putting the sticky there and then going off and typing, I had never thought of that!! :rotfl::rotfl:Mumtotwomonkeys - great name by the way! Well done on the decluttering.
Bargainbird - congrats on the anniversary!
Cranky - still thinking of you
Lillibet -
Hester - sorry to hear about your hubby, it just doesn't make any sense, but I am sure a better job is out there.
Bitsy - Tristan was doing a business degree with a raaaather well known american college and came to do a year over here which he extended to two. He was my first real love and had I not been such a coward back then I would have been over there as his wife for the last 20 yrs.... :rotfl:. We have remained close over the years and both our partners since then have always known what we mean to each other. As a side note, his horse breeding programme has meant both his horses and the stallions 'gift' to the mare is sold all over the world!
Well my meal with my father went well. He bought me a carved metal word to hang or prop up somewhere in the house. It says 'Diva'. It's fab but it IS baby pink and I do not have anything that colour in my house.. I do love it though.
Just filled the WM and started the BM.. sundried tomato loaf today. Dinner will be something chinese-y I think - I fancy noodles and chicken. Have an appt at the hospital up in Taunton at 1830 so we have to eat either really early or really late as it's a 90 min drive each way.
With love, light andfor everyone who would like one.

Edit: N9eav - sorry about your sons phone, it is horrible when things like that happen. To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough. If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I will try again tomorrow.0 -
Good morning N9eav and MSD. N9eave - sorry to hear that your DS had his phone pinched.
Diva - glad you had a good time with your Dad.
Jayne and George - you are still in my thoughts.
Welcome to Mumoftwomonkeys, and any other newbies I've missed because I've not been on here for a couple of days.
The house renovation is still ongoing, and still getting on my nerves with all the dust and me having to 'help' with the boring bits. Stil, I suppose it needs to be done but I so wish it was easier and quicker! It's such and old house that hasn't had much attention over the years and it will be lovely when it's finished - in about twenty years time!
The weather here has been gorgeous for the last few days, really bright and sunny, but so cold first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
Dinner today is beef bourgignon (sp) using some of the lovely big chunks of local beef I bought last week; €7 for enough meat for at least six meals, so a real bargain. I shall serve it with mash. Lunch will be homemade sweet potato, red pepper and bacon soup - I made loads recently, and it's really tasty. Breakfast will be porridge. I had run out of the porridge I bought back here from the Co-op when we visited the UK in August, and have been hunting around for it here for weeks. I finally found some in our local Leader Price bargain supermarket. Over here it's called 'flocons d'avoine' and the stuff I bought cost €0.89 for 500 grams - cheap but not as cheap as the Co-op's which is half the price. Still, I'm really pleased I've found it. We find a good bowl of porridge lasts us all morning, ad the cat loves it, too!
Well, not much exciting stuff has been happening around here apart from the work on the house, so not much to report.
RedRuby - hope your packing for the move is going well!
(((Hugs))) to all the poorlies.

Just a quick good morning from me for now as I'm running late, so hopefully will get on later today and post more thoroughly then! I do hate being rushed though, but those few extra minutes of sleep were incredibly tempting.
Omelette for tea tonight and I might get chance to do some more sewing. I think I have to find a Halloween outfit for work on Friday too so there'll be some cannibalising of old clothes. I rather fancy the idea of dressing up as a sorceress (mwahahaha!)
Anyway, must dash else the bus will go without me. Take care, and I hope everyone has a lovely day.

Morning everyone.
another early start, DS came visiting and told me he wanted to go downstairs. Poor lad has got a terrible barking cough - cold is on his chest and it sounds really tight and sore at the moment. Slapping on the Vicks in the hope that it will loosen it (and then listen to a nice phlemmy chesty cough instead :rotfl:). He's happy watching Brum <slummy mummy alert> so I can have a few minutes peace on here
DS had a new pair of shoes. £34 :eek::eek: I mean that's just ridiculous for one pair of shoes for a child
Got to pop to supermarket this morning and I guess I'll have to push round a duster and use my newly repaired vac. Oh how exciting my life is :rotfl:
Diva - How nice that you've kept in touch all these years
N9eav - sorry some toerag stole your son's phone. I'd love to know how these people would feel if someone came round and nicked all their stuff.
mioliere - I get sick of DIY at the best of times as it always seems such a disruption. I have no idea how you manage doing a whole house. Be worth it in the end though........
Bargainbird - hope the stopping smoking is still going OK.
Hugs to those that need them.

Morning all
Off to work again this morning but the boss is off until next week so I can have the radio on - stops me talking to myself!
MS Diva - the story of your cowboy is so romantic - and just a little bit sad
lilibet - glad to see you're exchanging at last - it's so stressful! i left home and stayed in the same place for 13 years and then i moved 5 times (!) in 3 years...now staying put!
Dinner is braised steak from the freezer and i'll do some mash and carrots with it - i'm running the freezer down a bit so i can start the grocery challenge for november with my fridge/freezer/cupboards as empty as they would be at the end of the month. I want to get a true idea of how much we're spending - if i'm stocked up I'd feel like i was cheating!
Well I better get ready and pack my lunch up - i've got some 'chinese style' soft noodles left over from last night which i'll take with a little curry sauce..Mmmm
Wishing everyone a happy & healthy day

Morning All
Sorry to hear that N9eav - always have to think to myself - what goes around comes round.
Have absolutely loads of office work to do today as tomorrow we are off to Gt Yarmouth staying one night in a Pemier Inn (we have vouchers so is free :j) cant wait.
Need to get some washing done & dried which will be interesting. Very mild here but damp.
DS is being good this morning & finishing his homework - may have something to do with the fact that if he gets it done he can go & buy fish for his new fishtank he bought yesterday with his holiday money.
Not entirely sure what is for dinner tonight, possible lasagne or maybe the cheap asda steak from the freezer.....will have to make my mind up soon.
House needs a good clean but wont get done before we go away & I guess it might as well be left till the kids go back to school.
Anyway off for a surf, have a great day.x0 -
Just a quick good morning as i am off to Bluewater this morning to meet my friend. I have known her for over fourty years yet we can still talk the legs of a donkey when we meet up.I am going to try and not spend too much as its still a bit early to get christmas shopping and I will be going by bus so it would mean carting it around with me all day.We are going to the cinema after lunch as well .
Hope everyone has a great day and the sun shines for you all.
Cheers JackieO x0 -
.....My son is upset as someone stole his phone from the changing room at work. It was a touch screen type with lots of stuff on it.......
I hope he has reported it? If nothing else, the mobile company should be able to block it. Was it taken from a locker? What's the company's view on thefts - are they concerned or do they just say "at owner's risk"?
My DS2 "mislaid" his iPhone at Glastonbury...he didn't report it to O2 for 3 weeks as he hoped it would be handed in - however, when he did, they blocked & disabled the old iPhone so it could not be used, even though his SIM card had not been used.0 -
Morning all
Not had a lot of sleep, not surprising really though.
N9eav, sorry about your son's phone, you are obviously annoyed, I see you started the Daily Threat, lol.
Thank you to all the kind comments on here & on my blog, someone even offered to buy us a turkey, such kindness reduced me to tears. I really need to pull myself together, we will manage, we always have. There are people on here with much greater problems than mere money.
It is the sheer injustice that hubby was taken on for 3 day to sweep up some leaves, works for a year & is now entrusted with opening & closing the school, but isn't considered good enough to do the job permenantly.
Still, onwards & upwards, I need to keep a smile on my face for hubby's benefit, he is going to ask for a detailed reason for not getting the job, at least that way he'll know where he went wrong.
OSwise, I shall do some decluttering & sort out the spare room, just incase I get the opportunity to get another lodger.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning all.
Have had a busy morning so far.
We're off to the synagogue this morning, so I've done the ironing and made lunch [boiled egg rolls for myself and DD2 and cheese rolls for DD1].
I'm going to wake the girls up shortly, which they don't enjoy, as they hate having to get up early. DD1 has decided that when she starts work, it will either be an afternoon or evening job
I have a terrible headache at the moment, but figure it's from lack of sleep. I managed to drop off sometime after 3, but was up again at quarter to six. Sometimes I think I should take the sleeping pills the doc prescribed, but I'm the only adult in the house, so that worries me
After the synagogue the girls have got a computer session, then we need to pop into Sainsbury's to get my ingredients for gazpacho. I've never made it before so I'm hoping it turns out ok. Come to think of it, I've never tasted it before, so I won't know whether or not it's okHopefully, neither will anyone else
DDs also want to make brownies with their friends later, so we need some stuff for those.
Going to do cheese toasties now for DDs breakfast, and need to put chicken in the SC as we're having curry tonight.
Have a good day all and ((((Hugs)))) for those who need themThere is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0
