New Style BT Bills

To qualify to get your line rental at £11.25 per month you need to go onto a Direct Debit and paper free billing. If you are on both a Direct Debit and paper free billing you are not charged the payment processing free of £1.50 a month and would get a credit of £1.25 of your line rental each month.
If you are set up for a Direct Debit but are not on paper free billing you save £1.50 per month as you are not charged the payment processing free.
The charge of £1.50 per month for the payment processing fee is applied to customers who do not pay there bill by Direct Debit as it cost BT money to collect the payments. The fee reflects the fact that some methods of payment are more costly to process than others and is therefore based on the average cost of all our non-automated payment methods. For example processing a cheque involves many more steps along the process chain then transferring money automatically by Direct Debit and therefore is more expensive.

I opted for both, direct debit and paper free. Will you be kind enough to tell me why for pro-rating BT use £15.45 instead of £11.250 -

I am hoping one day I will break the wall. Also I feel good when I see the BT Reps ignoring my posts. They ignore it b'cos they don't have an answer.
I might start a new thread with all my queries to them which were not answered.
Looks like Finnonual was off for couple of days. Hey! any update on the formula for prorating. is it (15.45 * 12)/365 or 15.45/30.
Poor things! They need more training.0 -

Well thank you BT Support Conan - I am still eagerly waiting for the PM.0 -
Well, I've just got my latest bill and it says the payment fee is now £9 per quarter!
£9? To bank a cheque? Come on, this must really be into scam territory now! Or even fraud! "Give us your bank details or it will cost you £36 a year!"
There is no way on this earth that any business (and I run one) can say it costs them anywhere near £9 to bank a cheque. I think our bank charges us 21p for each cheque paid in.
"Just sign up to DD then" I hear you say......
Aye, that will be right. I once did that with an insurance company - They continued to help themselves after the insurance was moved elsewhere, despite ever increasingly threatening letters. DD was stopped at the bank and it took legal action to recover the money they had unlawfully helped themselves to. They still owe £100 to cover legal expenses incurred in recovering the money from them. That, is all I need to convince me that you should never authourise anyone, especially a company as incompetent as BT, to help themselves to money from your bank account.
In the meantime, £9 per quarter to pay your bill appeares to be verging on illegal. Given the strong opinion on the £4.50 fee, what views on the £9 one?0 -
Oh well, thats BT lost another long standing customer for the line rental. I called them today to ask them to justify the £9 payment processing fee, and the foreign call centre operator was unable to do so, saying it was "the standard charge" - At this rate, by next year, the "standard charge" could be £20 a quarter, without any proper justification.
Her only advice was to disclose my bank account details so that they could help themselves to unspecified amounts of money as and when they wished (aren't we advised against giving our bank account details to unscrupulous organissations or individuals who ask for them, usually in an e-mail from Nigeria?)
Result? Line rental now switched to a service provider who doesnt charge you to pay your bill (however to choose to do so) and are cheaper than BT. And on the plus side, the customer service cannot be any worse than BT have been over the last 10 years or so!
Bye Bye BT! I'll be glad to be shot of you!:T0
