New Style BT Bills

  • October seems to be a busy month for BT, with their new style invoices and incorporating new charges for both line rental and charges. I had to query the additional charges that I wasn't anticipating. Basically the line rental went up by £1 back in July, so my invoice included been rebilled for the last quarter showing credits and adjustments to the evening and weekend contract discounts. New quarter was billed using new rates, but because of the shift to align billing dates in the new system, it looked incorrect. The CS agent attempted to explain the calculations to me, but it got even more confusing the more she explained. In the end I accepted the additional charges...wasn't too much. But will keep an eye on next quarters bill to see if it settles down. If it remains extortionately higher then its time to query, but system changes often results in slightly confusing calculations to bring things in line.

    Good luck.

Hi maveli, I have read your post and I can advise that the charges raised for all BT products will be charged at the correct price (without any discounts) in the first instance; therefore if you have the Free Evening and Weekend plan you are charged the full amount which is £12.50 for line rental and £2.95 for the Evening calls. Discounts are added at a later stage of the bill in the credit section. If you are charged for a broken period (outside you normal billing cycle) the full charge is raised for the service and any discounts i.e. paper free or discounts for the free calls would be then credited in the credit section and this would reflect the amount of days for service raised outside the duration of your normal bill. As a result of this the correct line rental is raised for any given day raised outside your normal billing cycle and this applies to both Monthly and quarterly bills.

That's where the problem. The credit section only applies discount for one month or a quarter not for one month/quarter + the extra days billed

Also if you keep talking about discount then stop advertising the way do now. Below is from your website
Pricing. All prices quoted include VAT. Line rental is £11.25 a month with Direct Debit and paper-free billing. Otherwise add £2.75 a month (£1.50 payment processing fee levied by BT Payment Services Limited, a BT Group company, plus £1.25 without paper-free billing discount). Discount appears as a bill credit. Set up paper-free billing online at www.bt.com/paperfree.

It is not a discount, it is extra. So as per your advertisement it is £11.25/month So the extra day should be charged at £11.25 not £15.45

Hi parallax_20. The new bills that have migrated over from our old system have a longer duration on them than the usual Monthly of Quarterly bills in order to have people in the same areas receiving bills on the same dates. Any discounts that have not been applied to the first migrated bill will be on the following invoice. Let me know if you need any further assistance or PM me your details and I can give you a call.

Hi, thanks for your reply. The Evening and Weekend Plan. All prices quoted include VAT. Line rental is ?11.25 a month with Direct Debit and paper-free billing, for new and existing residential customers signing up to a 12 month renewable contract. However, to receive the line rental at this cost you need to receive the discounts for Direct Debit and paper-free billing and the Monthly discount for the inclusive calls, which is advised under "Things you need to know!" at http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayCategory.do?categoryId=CON-HOME-PHN-R1#tab3

There is no discount for paying by Direct Debit.

BT does, however, impose an additional charge of £1.50/month for not paying by Direct Debit.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Thank you for that. I am telling this to the Reps manytimes in the past few weeks, they don't understand this.
