Hi Heinz, the discount for paper free billing is only applied if you have both Direct Debit and Paper Free billing.

If you are saying there is such a discount, HMRC may well have to open an investigation as to why BT Payment Services (or whatever they're called) was set up (apparently to avoid taxes).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Looking forward to seeing the new style bill (sort of).
The previous ones are a nightmare to understand. I have never had to read through such non-sense.
"direct debit discount" - sure....0 -
Rodney,
For God's sake read your own website. No discount additional charge it isPricing. All prices quoted include VAT. Line rental is £11.25 a month with Direct Debit and paper-free billing. Otherwise add £2.75 a month (£1.50 payment processing fee levied by BT Payment Services Limited, a BT Group company, plus £1.25 without paper-free billing discount). Discount appears as a bill credit. Set up paper-free billing online at www.bt.com/paperfree.0 -
This is my favourite: £1.50 to pay my bill.
I wish I could impose that one on MY customers...(no I don't)0 -

Lol, it isn't exactly as simple as £1.50 to pay your bill... as you can pay your bill with a DD and not pay £1.50. It is paying your bill by a check, or over the phone, or online via any process other than direct debit, which costs more money to process. Allbeit probably not an extra cost to BT of £1.50 per month... but £1.50 is definately not even near to being the highest charge issued for not paying by DD (cough cough Virgin Media). I do dispute how BT justify a sum of £1.50.... but at the end of the day you have a choice in how you pay your bills so you are choosing to pay £1.50 every month on top.
I have no direct debits set up and I pay more for my services but I have no problems whatsoever paying T-Mobile £3 extra as it means I can be a little late with my bill :P and don't get bank charges.0 -
:j OMG I am so pleased [sorry folks] to see the comments here :T .
For two days now, I have had to scrape bits of my OH off the wall - our house is like the centre of a financial tornado.
I think we have used a forest of trees to 'try' and break the bl**y new bill down [so much for paper free billing] and BT [STRIKE]confuse[/STRIKE] help line leaves much to be desired.
Just before this furore we were looking at switching providers, BT had just edged in front of Plusnet, then £90+ was DD'd from our account and apparently will be the same amount next time - jeez!!
Do other providers make their bills so complicated?
I do not think they get their basic figures wrong, they just weasel and fudge everything to confuse and legally, but immorally screw their customers.0 -

Once again. Line rental for option 1 weekend plan paper free is advertised at £11.25, any extra days charged should be at that rate, not at the rate of the plan with paper bills.
Perhaps an email to Ian Livingstone could sort it?0 -

I do not use cheques or pay in cash. I (used to) pay online. This does not cost them (£1.50) more than Direct Debit. It just means that I control when the money comes out (in time) rather than BT (earliest possible).
I still think it stinks. I do pay by DD, and I don't like it. But I am not prepared to give them anything extra :wall:0 -
Hello everyone,
To qualify to get your line rental at £11.25 per month you need to go onto a Direct Debit and paper free billing. If you are on both a Direct Debit and paper free billing you are not charged the payment processing free of £1.50 a month and would get a credit of £1.25 of your line rental each month.
If you are set up for a Direct Debit but are not on paper free billing you save £1.50 per month as you are not charged the payment processing free.
The charge of £1.50 per month for the payment processing fee is applied to customers who do not pay there bill by Direct Debit as it cost BT money to collect the payments. The fee reflects the fact that some methods of payment are more costly to process than others and is therefore based on the average cost of all our non-automated payment methods. For example processing a cheque involves many more steps along the process chain then transferring money automatically by Direct Debit and therefore is more expensive.
