I am a fan of aldi's super six and I subscribe to this thread to keep an eye on it and pop in when there are things I will use. I often end up topping up with other things too but because they are quick processing things through the tills and I have a disability which makes shopping difficult I'm not really able to check the receipt at the time.
After yesterdays trip I am looking at the receipt and can see things on it that I didn't actually buy and things I did buy swiped more than once
Sort of defeats the purpose of going for the savings if they are going to charge for things you didn't even buy!
Although I don't like it I can see how they might accidentally swipe something twice but I don't know how they managed to charge for things that weren't even in my trolley? As I mentioned I do have a disability which means I struggle at the tills and can't keep a close eye on what they are doing so this sort of thing makes me so cross..
It isn't as if I can go back and query it because once you have left you can't proove that you didn't have the extra items. So as far as I can see I just have to put up with it.:(
I have noticed this before on my bill but shopping is difficult enough for me so I really can't manage standing around afterwards trying to check the bill, it does make me wonder about their honesty and whether they are taking advantage of that fact.
I wondered has anyone else had issues with them scanning extra items?0 -
snapdragon the same has happened to me in lidl...i think the only answer is to check your bill when you have finished at the till....do u go in a car ? could you have a sit in there and check the bill over ? or in the nicer weather sit on the wall outside and take your time looking at it...i have been over charged many times in asda and find things get double scanned a lot in m and s
try and find some strategies that allow u to look the bill over...hthonwards and upwards0 -
Ask the till operator to scan the items more slowly for you and perhaps use the packing shelf at the back of the tills to check your receipt there before leaving the shop. I have not had items scanned twice but I have had something I didn't buy appear on the receipt.0

Aldi's barcodes are all shapes and sizes, and they don't print numbers alongside them. I think this makes them more prone to mis-reads.
Also, some of their items (e.g. fruit & veg) are keyed using numbers rather than barcodes, and this is obviously susceptible to human error.
Having said that, I find Aldi & Lidl more reliable overall than Asda (who I would say were average) and Tesco (poor). Just a pity that they don't reward you for pointing out their mistakes like the other SMs.
@snapdragon: can you get to the shelf beyond the tills, and quickly scan your receipt there? That's what I do.0 -

That's definitely the plan, and a good Aldi cashier can really go at a rate of knots.
However, I too have been victim of a phantom scan (a 99p bottle of squash appearing as £6.95 face cream). I've never come across this in any other SM.0 -

I had this a few years back. I picked up clearance Fathers Day gift bag packs (about 4 packs) and was so busy packing my trolley I wasn't paying attention until she told me the total was well over £100  Turns out the gift bags had scanned through as Garden Arches at about £25 instead of 99p:eek: I now always check my receipts, and do a running total as I go around the shop so I have an idea of how much it should be about.Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Me too, apparently I bought a bike panier without noticing. They explained it by saying that sometimes two barcodes can run together making a third if the checkout person goes so fast.0

Yep I would have to agree and that speed really contributes to my problems at the tills, I suffer from balance issues because of permanent vertigo and the conveyor belt movement and scanning motion at the tills triggers a violent attack which is why I have to keep my eyes averted or closed and lean against something or hold onto the trolley until it calms a little! Then I am just glad to get out of the shop and sit down. I will have to try to get into the habit of checking the receipt in the car before I leave the car park.
On a more positive note I have found some cashiers in other stores have been great when they realise you are struggling. The lady on the till in Morrisons could not have been more helpful; she closed the till to others, scanned slowly, packeds my bags with me and walked me out to car where she loaded shopping into boot for me, took trolley back and came back with my £1 coin. Now that is great service :T
Similarly a cashier in Asda also acknowledged the difficulties and slowed right down and helped me with packing.
In contrast however Sainsburys was quite the opposite experience, the first time I ventured out without the assistance of my son and despite the fact I was using a walking stick, the lady assumed I was drunk and make a snide comment that "I should take more water with it". That left me embarrassed and fuming and I couldn't wait to get out of there!
I rarely shop alone nowadays because of the difficulties but you do have to get on with your life and that means sometimes it is necessary, so as suggested you just have to come up with coping techniques.
Sorry to have gone off topic but thanks everyone for your feedback and suggestions.0 -

I know you must have wanted the ground the swallow up but that kind of behaviour must be challenged there and then in the store. It is totally unacceptable.0
