0845 685 3000 is the 0800 Reverse service, a PC wouldn't be using such a service, not really a scam just someone probably winding you up at your expense if you accepted the call.

Best to just bar 0800 Reverse, or not accept reverse charge calls.

You might get them to refund if you pester them.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

You can send them an eMail as per: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=1179803&postcount=2

Might be worth chasing up for a refund in charges stating what you have said.

  • Ta again people, I'd sort of resigned myself to the loss but got an e-mail yesterday.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

    Thank you for your enquiry.

    >From the information that you have provided concerning the 0800 Reverse
charge call you received I can surmise that this was not a legitimate call.
If you could provide me with the telephone number that the call came in on I
will ensure that you will not be charged for the call. I apologise for any
distress that this call may have caused you. This call will be investigated
and if possible action will be taken.

When receiving a 0800 Reverse charge call we recommend that you do not
accept the call unless you hear a clear name of someone that you know. It
would be highly unlikely for any company or professional body to use our
service to contact you especially under the circumstances that you have
    described to me.

The 0845 685 3000 number that was quoted on your 1471 option is an 0800
Reverse telephone number this telephone number is put in place to advise you
which reverse charge company the caller has used to try and contact you.

When receiving a 0800 Reverse charge call there is a connection charge. This
charge will vary depending on the type of telephone that they are using.
    >From a Ordinary Residential telephone or a payphone the connection charge is
£2.962 excluding VAT this includes the first 30 seconds of the call after
that there is a charge of 42.55 pence a minute excluding VAT. From a mobile
the connection charge is £3.395 excluding VAT this includes the first 30
seconds of the call after that there is a charge of 51.06 pence a minute
    excluding VAT.

I can offer to place a temporary or permanent block from receiving them from
our service. If you should wish this please e-mail or phone 0845 077 9000
stating the type of block you require. There is no charge in respect of
these options and they will not affect your phone service in any other way.
I hope this action is of reassurance to you and apologise for any
    inconvenience caused.

    Regards,

    Customer Service

  • My daughter did this to me yesterday, I refused it 3 times, but then had to answer it in case it was an actual emergency as she was with my friends kids I felt more obliged, she did it from a mobile as well, so extra expensive, turns out she wanted to know if I wanted her home, grrrr

I told her I'm taking it out of her pocket money, because we had the same argument about this about 4 years ago when I got a big phone bill, she said she didn't remember.

    13 going on two:mad:

I would love to know how they can justify such high costs though!!
    Wishing you a lucky 2023: 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

They don't need to justify their costs. It's a service they offer and you are deemed to have accepted the price when you accept the phone call. Obviously that's rubbish because it's the person who's making the call who's making the decision for you, but at least in theory you have the ability to say no.
  • I have just had TWO of these calls within a few minutes of each other, the first time it happened, I did not hear a name so I said "who is this from", nothing happened. Then it rang again and the same, I couldnt hear the name so feeling it might be a relative who has just been hospitalised, I said YES, then the line went dead. Seems someone is either taking the p**s or someone somewhere is making money out of us.

    checked here and somewhat relieved.

    Be warned!!
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long

Had a phone call from 08456 853000 at 1am this morning asking me to accept a reverse call charge. As my son was home I knew it couldn't be him and couldn't think of anyone else who would be calling at that time, so I put the phone down. Be warned, when I mentioned this to my elderly parents to warn them, my aunt had the same sort of call earlier in the week. Be aware and check called ID if possible.
