0800 reverse?

Comments

  • I had the same experience today. I picked up the phone (seeing it was an 0845 number on the display) and got the automated message saying that someone called 'inaudible' was trying to reach me.

Firstly it says "Say Yes to accept the call". If you stay silent it then says "Let's try something else, press 9 to accept the call". If you still don't respond then it goes through the same thing again.

I hung up and when it called back secnods later (I guess it does 1 autodial if there is no response) I still couldn't make out the name.

Then I got onto the web and found it was £3.50 to accept (which includes the first minute) then it's 50p per minute after that. Kinda glad I hung up now! My number is also ex-directory...I wonder if it's the firm itself trying to generate revenue! I'm curious who it was but not enough to spend £3.50, especially since I'm willing to put money on it being either a misdial or an unorthodox company.
  • I had one of these just nowand just hung up!
tried to Google the number with no luck.
    Any suggestions please?

Welcome to the MSE forums jimhallam.

    I'd recommend THIS (click).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

few people know our x directory number so I'm really wondering now who it could be.

Could be absolutely anyone, being ex-DQ doesn't stop anyone dialling your number, they are a pain, so worth simply requesting that your number is barred from the service. Barring 0800 Reverse doesn't stop any BT reverse charge call, though even BTs service for several years has been automated too once you ask to reverse the charges.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

You or someone who uses your phone has pressed '3' to call back the last number on 1471, '0' to call back the number on 1571 or used the ring back when free service.

Costing an extra 7½p, 7½p and (IIRC) 15p respectively!

    Laziness is expensive with BT.

  • I got one of these too. I'm thinking of sending the following - any thoughts anyone?

    Hello

I this morning (Sunday) received a phone call from an automated operator asking me whether I'd accept an 0800 reverse phone call.

The caller said she was a Police Constable ('PC') and informed me that my daughter had been arrested. I don't have a daughter and she said 'What's your number again? .... Oops wrong number'.

I am now concerned that I have been subject of a landline phone scam. Can you inform me who the number 08456 853000 is registered to? Can you also inform me what costs you were planning to charge me, and what the breakdown of those costs are?

I am concerned that, had I admitted to having a daughter, I would have been involved in a lengthy phone call that may have involved my being 'required' to pay bail to a specific bank number, with my bank account subsequently being emptied.

So, please let me know whether this call across your network was a genuine error by a police constable, or a fraudulent call. If the latter I shall need to inform the police since it would seem to involve someone impersonating a Police Officer, which is I understand a serious offence.

    Kind regards
