Nope not posting it, for one I think MSE puts a limit on characters in a post, for another I don't want to talk any lurkers in the area into buying my house!

Woah that is a serious gift. Very good. To be honest in my family a gift is *never* no strings (ever) and the process leading up to the gift - the 'way' it is given - is extremely important. I understand your frustrations Dinah and CMD your perspective but it would never be that simple for my family. Grace in receiving the gift would be quite important. For example buying NIM's Dad a ticket over when he's free to show him the house and taking him out to dinner. Sorry that probably sounds really weird but just another perspective.

Today I have had the harsh job of researching Italian designer furniture companies (i.e. shopping!). There have to be some good days!

We'd invite him over, but buying him the ticket would be odd! Argh my head is spinning and all my muscles are tensed up - really need that massage now!

Hehe, good thinking Dinah! All of you NE lurkers stay away from Dinah's house! ;)

It might be a good strategy writing a super long e-mail full of facts and figures, if he’s busy he might just glance at it and think, ‘Ah well, they obviously know what they’re doing, I’ll just give them the money if it means I don’t have to read any more epics!’

Has NIM’s Dad been over since he NIM moved here? It might be a good idea to invite him and show him where you want to live and where you want to get married etc. It might make him feel more involved and if he can get a feel of the place he might be happier about giving you the money.
Lara, I want your job! :)
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

Mum just emailed asking what I want for tea. My reply - 'Baileys, lots of ice'. Really need a drink after this email!
