Wow that is an amazing amount to be given. Maybe because it isn't on your terms?

But I'm not. I just feel hollow about it. And I caused a fight with NIM over it cos I was being wierd about it. I guess I'm panicing that its too big a commitment to take on this huge mortgage and loan for the works. And I know its a smaller mortgage than we could afford and therefore it doesn't matter that we have a loan too instead of a bigger mortgage, but still, I don't know if I can do it.

It's understandable to be a bit overwhelmed and panicky about taking on a house that needs a lot of work done. I think everyone panics a bit when they are buying their first place.

Maybe have a look at the figures again tomorrow to reassure yourself that it is doable and you will be fine.
    Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947
    DFD:Nov 22/June 22
    Mortgage: €199,712

wow he is being very generous and i understand it is a big give!! I dont think you should worry about it though! Just get excited together and go for it!!!!
  • What CMD said - maybe it's just all become a bit 'real' now. I think it's better to feel like this and be a bit cautious though than just blindly happy about it (does that make sense? I'm ready for bed!)

That's a good amount from NIM's Daddy, have they given up on their madcap scheme to get the house for £100k? I think you're feeling a little hollow about it because of all the stress leading up to this, not knowing how much it'd be and on what terms so it may take a while to accept the gift and feel happy about it. Do you still feel like this is the house for you or are you feeling funny because you're not convinced it's right?

On a completely unrelated note, I got a pair of frilly purple knickers in my advent calendar this morning! I maybe shouldn't have brought the package into work to open at my desk though! :D

It is an amazing amount of money. You may be feeling hallow that this is not on your terms BUT it will mean you will have lower mortgage payments and you will not be fixed to a set repayment schedule and the additional interest that the mortgage would cause.

    It is just another challenge.
  • Actual frilly purple knickers Birdie? Wow, I want your advent calendar! I forgot about mine til I'd brushed my teeth so it'll have to wait til tonight!

Weigh in day - STS for me, but I was 1lb less yesterday ... TOTM so I'm hoping for a loss next week, fingers crossed - I may make it to 10st by New Year yet!!

I think thats just it, I still think the house is right for us, its got loads of space and its the location we want. Its just a bit real. And buying it means taking on a lot of debt. I'm also worried we'd be refused for a loan to do the works, although I am assured that once we have a house we wouldn't have an issue getting credit. Still makes me nervous though as we'd be deeply back in debt and I'd be a proper DFW again. NIM is calling the mortgage advisor today.

Weighed in this morning. I'm back to where I was at the start of the second stage of the challenge. This is officially panic stations. So as of today I'm back on food focus and I need to stop eating chocolate etc like its going out of fashion.

    To do list today:
    1. Call mortgage advisor
    2. 1 Dooyoo
    3. 2 Dooyoo
    4. 3 Dooyoo
    5. Onepoll
    6. Scratchies
    7. Check online banking
    8. Move money from savings to current account (somewhere, things went very wrong)
    9. Take tablets
    10. NIM BP
    11. Dinah BP
    12. 2 x Bingo Britain
    13. Get back on food focus
    14. Go to bank to ask about mortgages and loans
So as point 6 suggests, I'm officially knackered on the challenge, somewhere my sums went wrong, and this money now needs to go into the current account to prevent bills taking us over the overdraft limit.

Won a tenner on bingo britain last night, so thats us even based on what we laid out at the start, anything from this point is gain.

Did anyone see the Royal Doulton china in the weekly email? Got 8 sets for our everyday set in the new house.

Also, to anyone not on Facebook - my mum has lost all patience with my wedding planning skills and has completely taken over! Yey!
    Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81
    Debt September 20th 2022 £2991.68- 96.92% paid off
    Met NIM 23/06/2008
