I'm also worried we'd be refused for a loan to do the works, although I am assured that once we have a house we wouldn't have an issue getting credit.

Have I missed something, I thought Daddy NIM was providing the loan?

Weighed in this morning. I'm back to where I was at the start of the second stage of the challenge. This is officially panic stations. So as of today I'm back on food focus and I need to stop eating chocolate etc like its going out of fashion.

I think we've all been a bit useless on the second go! Poddle excepted. My aim really is to maintain current weight over Christmas and to have lost 2st overall by my birthday (12 Feb).

Don't beat yourself up about the sums going wrong, I'm sure a good study of the accounts etc will reveal whatever was overlooked. At least you've spotted it BEFORE going over the OD limit :o

I saw the Royal Doulton thing and thought of you, didn't look at it though, off to have a squizz...

ETA - it's pretty, total bargain! Got me browsing at crockery/kitchen stuff and dreaming of moving out...

I think you've nailed why you're not jumping up and down with glee! £26k is an amazing gift and leg up to buying this house, but you're much too conscientious to take it without a second thought. Which is a good thing! I know the idea of taking on more debt (especially when you've spent the last year getting rid of it) is horrible, but can't you just pretend it's part of your mortgage ie, the 26k that you won't be paying back...

hope all goes well with the bank today and you feel more positive afterwards - it really is a super generous gesture and an opportunity that most 23 (?) year olds don't get :)

I agree with Tete - don't stress out about your sums, I'm sure there's a perfectly logical explanation...

And thanks Tete for your confidence in my dieting ability - just remember I crashed out of the first challenge!

However, I did lose another 1lb this week (yay!) so I'm under 10 stone (woo!) - I know it's not the fastest weight loss but I've found a routine I'm happy with; sticking to ww 5 days a week (except the evening after I weigh in when I eat whatever i darn well like), doing a couple of spin classes and then not counting points at the weekend. I think I'll try to step it up after Christmas as I'll need to shift some post holiday weight too!

£10 for 2 sets of dinner plate, side plate, bowl, cup and saucer is great going for basic china in my book, for royal doulton its fab.

Nope, daddyNIM is not providing the loan now, only the deposit. So we need to find money to do the works.

Okay, this might be a mental idea, but I'm considering moving my overdraft onto my credit card and removing the overdraft (well, reducing it to say £200). I seem to be a LOT better at debt clearing when its seperate from my day to day spends. I know it will earn interest on the credit card, but it should also be a lot easier to clear since its seperate mentally and physically.

  • I know what you mean - my OD is not on my current account and a lot easier to keep track of that way. Is there not a cheaper way of doing it than a CC though? You have so many bank accounts can you not use one of those?

Well done on the weight loss again Poddle, hope you enjoyed your tea after 7pm last night!

OK, there is something seriously wrong with my scales! It says I have put ON another 4lbs! In a week, how the heck can that happen, I've been sick for a week! I will weigh in at my mum's tonight and report back. Well done everyone else on the weight loss.

Don't stress about the money Dinah, it's a big deal buying a house at the best of times.

Nope none of my other accounts have an overdraft. Besidse I know me, only way I'll get a wigggle on to clear it is if its costing me money in interest payments!

    Woah, Woah, Woah - Wait!

What have I missed?! Did the people accept the offer? Or is the 26k towards another house?!

It is scary Dinah but you will do it. Don't worry about it being more debt, once you get a place it has to happen. If you got that house your mortgage would be lower so even though you have a loan your overall debt wouldnt be that much more.

I saved up all my money to pay off my overdraft in a seperate account.

Oh and Birdie, your Mum sounds fab what a great advent calender gift.
