The fact is, practically every airline is affected by one strike or another on a regular basis. If you have concerns about BA, look at Air France - do they ever not have the threat of a strike on the horizon? :p

If you base your travel arrangements on what may happen in the future, you might as well stay at home. Yes, it is good to be aware, but a big old dose of perspective is needed in this situation! ;)

The postal strike will also impact on BA - does that count as a 'yearly BA strike' ? Apparently it does according to your criteria.
How does the postal strike impact BA? Most of it's transactions are online
Yup, its that time of the year again. BA report huge losses which in turn mean the airline is forced to make cuts/freezes etc...

Obviously some one in the union missed a whiff of someone elses fart and has decided to ballot for strike action.
Or the union saw this coming, made lots of suggestions on ways to cut costs (including having a pay cut) then saw the management bury it's head in the sand until the losses appear then started panicking and went into "macho management" mode
  • If i am wrong then show me and ill apologise.

Have a look at year ending 31 March 2008, profit was £883 million

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Airways#Financial_performance

One of only 13 airlines in history to reach a 10% operating margin.
  • Whilst the info is likely to be correct id not believe everything you read on Wikipedia.

Still, if it is correct how a company can from a near £900m profit to a £400m loss is really something.
  • As for my info on their performance, i may be a little off the mark - Im not an economist and purely writing from memory. If i am wrong then show me and ill apologise.

I know the information to be correct, wikipedia is just a very conveniant source for info like that.

However here's a reliable souce, its BA's anual report and accounts for 2007/8. The page you'll need is 5. ;)

    If I was wrong - I would :D

You posted that BA strike on a yearly basis - do you still stand by that assertion? Can you support that claim ?

If you are too stupid to see how strikes effecting BA pose risks to pax

Can you highlight where I posted that a strike wouldn't effect passengers, because I've said nothing of the sort. I'm merely posting to counter your inaccuracies. People come to these forums for accurate information and it's important that is maintained.

While most of it's bookings are done online, all of the corporate transactions and interactions still travel via regular mail. That's how BA and all other major corporations are affected by a mail strike.

There is obviously a clash of intelligence here.

    You said it.

To be fair your original point was a valid one - people might well want to bear in mind the possibility of BA strike action around the Christmas period when booking flights.

Unfortunately you completely undermine your point by surrounding it with misleading and inaccurate nonsense, and then your belligerent attitude when people try to correct those inaccuracies.

In the case of BA, they had a massive reliance on their premium cabins to generate the high margin fares. With the crash in banking and recession in general, premium cabin fares are generally the first thing a company ditches. Then all non-critical travel which softens margins on the economy cabins.

It is no real surprise at all to me.
