Thats a dangerous thing to do  the OP only needs her battery testing, if she goes there they will condemn the tyres, brakes, disc's and anything else they can think of, if they sold cars they would probably tell her she needed a new one.:D0 -

Incidentally I once enquired from a retailer what the difference was between their 3 year warranted batteries and the 5 year ones?
His answer amazed me, they were the same battery with a different sticker,
But then he explained most if not all would last 3 years, fine, and a very good percentage would last 5, the extra cost paid for the 5 year one covered the few that failed;)
Makes sense when you actually think about it, some off us will take a risk and some prefer to insure
Yes, that is quite common.
I bought a battery back in 2001 and was offered 2,3,4,5, and lifetime guarantees.
Apart from the 2 year one which was a different battery, the remainder were all the same battery. It was effectively an extended insurance policy you were buying on a 3 year battery.
Now I don't normally like extended warranties, but the small extra charge in this case seemed well worth the cost.
Especially since I got a brand new battery last year off them as the original one eventually failed.:D
The store was even more amazed initially as due to a millenium bug on their till receipt at the time, they thought the battery was actually originally purchased in 1991... but I came clean.
Back on topic, yes the battery does need to be charged fully but that can usually be identified by taking a simple voltage reading.
It's when you apply the load test, you find a battery that otherwise looks at first sight fully charged, is doomed."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Thank you all for your help and also putting a smile on my face! :T
To update you the battery man came this afternoon and just replaced the battery, no questions, no testing nothing. Incidently when it came to signing the paperwork it contained the details of my switch card used for the original order. I queried it and was told that they had just printed and amended my original order. As the card used was stolen and cancelled a few months back I just put a cross through the card details and made a note in the comments section mentioning a 10 month old battery and that the card was not valid and was reported stolen and was used for the original order. He didn't say a word.
So all is well that ends well and thank you so much for all your help. I have learned a lot and don't feel like a complete car numpty.

you can get recon alternators for around £50. a workmate of mine got a brand new alternator for a land rover freelander diesel for £110,which we all thought was a very good price....work permit granted!0
