Car battery failed after 10 months.

Regardless what happened, your battery should still be in working order after 10 months (especially under our climate) unless your car cannot charge the battery correctly. Do as the man who sold you the battery says, put it on slow charge for 24h then see how long it holds the charge. What kind of battery is it? what does the sticker say? Any manufacturer's mark?
Reason for being so sure of my comments is that i work directly with battery manufacturers and can assure you that they take field failures after 10 months very seriously. Just let us have more info.
Thanks for your post. The RAC has tested the alternator and it was fine, is there something else which could affect it charging? To be honest I don't know how to put the battery on slow charge, do I need special equipment? I don't even have the tools to get the battery out of the car!Incidently according to the website it seems that removing the battery will invalidate the guarantee, it is not very clear, so it seems to be a lose / lose option.
All I can see from my paperwork is that I have a 10/02 - 07/05, I have no idea what that means and I am a bit clueless although I try my best!

I've had Hoppecke batteries and they have been excellent; lasted years and years !0

we use whatever we can get our hands on at the time,usually bosch or varta though. we did use hoppecke for a bit we try to avoid them now. they are the only battery that ive had explode and its happened on 3 different occasions on 3 different sites. and many more that have just failed earlier than expected....work permit granted!0 -
Take the car to KwikKrap, I'm sure they'll confirm it needs a new battery, one of there's of course. AS GS says only a load test against spec would prove the issue.
Incidentally I once enquired from a retailer what the difference was between their 3 year warranted batteries and the 5 year ones?
His answer amazed me, they were the same battery with a different sticker, :eek:
But then he explained most if not all would last 3 years, fine, and a very good percentage would last 5, the extra cost paid for the 5 year one covered the few that failed;)
Makes sense when you actually think about it, some off us will take a risk and some prefer to insureI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

the rac use a new digital battery tester made by midtronics , its a vast improvement over the old one they use and its very accurate . the patrol should have done the test in a sequence . first check battery voltage before jump starting and check electrolyte levels . then start charging the battery for 10 - 15 min to help get the battery to a acceptable state of charge , then start checking the alternator output under full load (all lights on , blower on full , heated rear screen ETC ETC ) . after about 20-25 min turn the car off and check for amps draw with every thing off . max you should have should be below 0.2 of a amp . but some cars will show a large draw for any thing up to half a hour , as the car is still awake (they are pc,s on wheels) .
to be honest with you , new parts go wrong ... its a fact of life .

goldspanners i agree with you , i have had loads of them hoppecke batteries fail , all under a year old . there poo :mad: .
Whatagain . if you have a local garage that you get on well with , ask them to slow charge the battery and test it after 24 hours
