I live on an unlit, tree-lined, scary-at-night road which cars speed up and down and which no child should be walking up or down in the dark. I wouldn't have wanted my children to be out round here when they were young (they're in their 30s now) If 'children' do come they are usually surly adolescents begging, and I have to say that I really disapprove of that, so we do switch off the lights and ignore them - or go out ourselves. Sorry if that sounds unfriendly ! (I do encourage carol singers but only if they actually sing, which some of them do)0

Well Boo Humbug, thenWe don;t keep Haloween, preferring Bonfire Night or Mishief Night (a quaint Yorkshire tradition

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. I'm house-sitting for my mum and dad while they're on holiday, my mum has left a bag of mini curly-wurlys, fudges, buttons etc and I broke into them last night! There are also some chocolate "eyeballs" that apparently have strawberry cream inside them- hope not too many people come round so I can eat those ones. We used to have lots of kids on my road, I grew up with loads of friends and we all dressed up with lots of effort on Hallowe'en and actually *practised* our Christmas carol repertoire
And when I was older I used to take round the little boy I babysat for (any excuse to get my witch's hat on.) Now there are only a few children here who never play out and it makes me sad, so I shall light my pumpkin yankee candle in the window to encourage them.

We never get any kids knocking here. When I first moved in four or five years ago I was sooo excited about my first Halloween here, but no-one knocked and its been the same thing every year
I think its because its a main road sort of in between two housing estates. They are currently building a bypass to take most of the traffic away so fingers crossed it'll quieten the road and next year or maybe the year after I might actually get my first trick or treater.

I have been and bought my supplies today.
Quality Save (Home and Bargain) has 10 brown paper lunch bags for 89p. They also have Haribo scary sweets (10 packets for 99p), which I got 2 bags of. I then got £5 of eye balls, spooky coins and spooky sweets from Thorntons.
I have made up the 10 bags, topped up with Cadbury heroes left over from DDs birthday. I am going to make pumpkin shaped and decorated cookies to go in the bags also. I still need to make up some labels to stick on the luggage labels I got from Wilkies (39p) that say 'Happy Halloween'.
My OH is 30 this Halloween and we will be in as DD will have to be in bed and we have a lot of small children in our street so I want it to be fun for them.
TK Maxx has all their halloween stuff half price. I have bought a really cool ceramic pumpkin with lid and filled it with loads of spooky sweets for the OH:rotfl:. I hope he likes it!!! I might pretend it is all he is getting LOL.

We love it. I usually take my little ones around our road quite early. Then the eldest (5 this weekend) stays up a bit late to hand sweets out to others. We get a lot who have huge bags full of sweets. Also it is the same family who are always the last to call (have been for the last 5 years!)0

This is our first Halloween in this house too, I've bought three bags of mixed lollies and Love hearts and stuff, as well as some mini Wham bar chews. I gave out glowsticks one year too which the kids absolutely loved so I'm tempted to do that again.
I'm quite scared that we'll get loads of teenage lads who haven't dressed up knocking, it's quite a rough area with loads of chavvy lads hanging round on a night, I wouldn't want to give them all the treats for making no effort at all, and then run out for the actual little ones who are in really good costumes! Although I think we might be going out on Halloween night to a party so will be in for all the little kids who can't be out too late, and will miss everyone else.D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0
