Thank you all so much for your help.I've been sooooo annoyed with how slow my laptop was, so I came on here with the intention of getting some help to find out whay, and I saw this thread.
So, thank you everyone. I've deinstalled AVG, and my laptop is running back at normal speed now, much to my relief.
Can you recommend which is best to use instead of AVG - Avast or Avira?
I already have spybot search and destroy on my laptop.
Thanks for your help.

AVG within the last week has just launched another major update that involves a PC restart. However, when you do this, your internet surfing days are over!!
Having the LinkScanner disbabled is no longer enough to bypass whatever AVG have now done. Many web sites won't open, and those that do, take an age.
After using AVG now for over 8 years, I feel it's time for us to part company. There are plenty of other 'free' anti-virus prgrams out there that work without any major issues. On checking with AVG 'help' forums, they currently blame ZoneAlarm for an incompatiblity issue, but that's unacceptable. Cnet has had 48 Million downloads of ZoneAlarm - it's not a minority use program.
Life is too short to continuously try to work out why this darn progam (AVG), grinds to a halt every time they 'upgrade' it - that's their job, not ours!

I am also in the position to chose which route to go. On AVG 8,5, have no desire to upgrade. So might go for Avast or Avira depend upon recommendations.
Also is there a special way to uninstall AVG?Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way

no had to many issues with ZA years ago
tried out avira last night, 16 extra false positives, any file titled keygen gets flagged :rotfl:0 -

The best way is to look up 'AVG' on your program tabs, then you will see the option to uninstall this (current!) piece of junk! Support for v8.5 will soon stop, so you will need to take some sort of action.
Also:no had to many issues with ZA years ago
That would explain why you seemingly have no problems with the latest AVG setup. Most users with issues all seem to be running Zonealarm.0 -
Hi, I have AVG9 security which includes a Firewall, It costs less than a £5.00 for three PCs for one year. I used to have ZA Pro but had many so many problems, now everything seems fine.0

How come? It's £38 from their web site for the full version?

I installed the free AVG two weeks ago following a recommendation in the Sunday Times (I had been using Norton before) and now my computer has gone blank. It's switching on and showing my desktop background photo but nothing else. I'm not remotely techie but is it a lost cause regarding repair or is there anything I can do?
