Avg 9 free new release problems

I have the paid version of AVG and took the offer it gave me to upgrade to the AVG9. I haven't noticed any difficulty (yet) in accessing any websites, but I am unable to shut down my computer.
I close everything down. Messages appear as usual ie 'logging off', 'saving your settings', 'shutting down' and nothing else happens. I've left it on for up to 30 minutes and then switched off power.
Is this caused by the problem mentioned above, so should I follow the instructions you give, or is this a different issue.0 -
Different problem altogether mate, sorry.
I would suggest you post your query on the AVG forum, you usually get a pretty sensible response:
This forum won't allow me to post a link (!!), but just google AVG free support.
Just noticed too that you have the 'paid' version of AVG, this comes with manufacturer email support, so maybe you should try that first of all.
Best of luck,

thanks for this was having same probs after dowbloading the avg 9, pc very slow and uncoporative. have done as you've said so hoping things will be alot better again, so thanks:beer:frugalstephen wrote: »Firstly, AVG 9.0 is on the whole excellent and very robust, however, I had the same problems when I upgraded from 8.5 to 9.0 (difficulty surfing with ease) - here's how to fix it!
Open the AVG user interface (right click on the AVG icon on the system tray)
Right click on the 'link scanner' and 'open', then disable the three settings at the bottom. save your changes. Then close that window. Then 'right click' on the link scanner icon and place a tick on the 'ignore the state of this component' - if you don't do this, you'll get a warning triangle appearing on the AVG icon in your system tray.
It took me three days of faffing around with every one of my browser settings and numerous other crap before I worked this out!!
Don't worry about disabling the linkscanner - it's a new feature, and doesn't quite work yet, as long as you surf sensibly, you'll be absolutely fine.0 -
Having just upgraded to AVG 9.0 my laptop has since decided not to turn on anymore. It gets to my 'Acer Aspire' image page and freezes, not continuing to Windows. It would seem one heck of a coincidence for it not to be the software. Anyony have any suggestions?0

i had to access the link scanner options via Tools / advanced settings / link scanner. managed to disable the 3 settings but cant find this setting to get rid of the triangle. (its AVG 9.0)0 -

Thanks Eric,
used safe mode and uninstalled AVG, now laptop works fine!!
might try the filehippo tonight and see what happens.
From looking at AVG's own forums there seems to be many problems with 9.0.
Many thanks0 -
My personal opinion of AVG is its main feature is that it makes your computer so unusable that even malware dont want to run on it! Its a unique way of doing things and before its time I'm sure.
I really dont understand why when the new version doesn't work people revert to an earlier version, why not just install a better antivirus???? Boggles the mind.0 -
Have just got round to downloading AVG 9 today and followed frugalstephen's advice to fix the problem of certain web pages not loading.
Unfortunately some pages still won't load, for example:
www.greenpeople.co.uk
The AVG version is 9.0.709 and the LinkScanner version is 151
Is anyone else still having this problem?
Thank you0 -
Same problem for me. Just updated free AVG9 from web. Using XP, zonealarm and Chrome browser. Some links work, others don't. (greenpeople is ok for me, fordmanchester... have you closed your browser and reopened it?)
Disabling the linkscanner seems to solve the problem. Apparently AVG are working on it. But might try a different antivirus program to see how it runs.0
