Still waiting for your explanation of 'properly' :D

    From the article you posted
Always drive over speed cushions one wheel over, one wheel on the road. Eventually this will break springs, but that is better than blowouts.

I think this is the type of speed bump that is causing all the trouble.

a broken spring is better than a blowout?
lol have you never seen what a sheared spring can do inside a wheelarch at speed?
the 1st thing to go would be the tyre
Fiat had a problem with poor quality springs in Stilos and there answer was to retrofit a 'catcher' to stop the spring skewering the tyre

    EDIT:

as you can see that was a low speed residential area

Whilst we can all read that, where has Honest John got his evidence from?

Inner tyre wear and a deflation of the tyre resulted in a death. Fact
Inner tyre wear caused by speed bump (or debris/pot hole). Vehicle examiners opinion.

Edit out (or debris/pot hole) from the VE report and republish= Speed bumps cause death.

Like alot of things in the media, it is not an out and out lie but not the whole truth.

Maybe Fiat should have blamed the speed bumps.:rotfl:

lol it was a horrendous move from Fiat
the Stilo could have been a good car but too many niggles and the whole spring farce
thats why they dropped the name and the the new Bravo out so quick!!

    anyone reading,beware cheap Stilos!!

so when these cars go over a speed bump are we saying the inner wall scrapes across the edge of the speed bump?
because the way i see it at most it will cause feathering of the tread/edge of the tyre
the wheel is still going up over the bump rather than scraping along the edge
Nope - look at Hintza's picture and link above for the speed cushion.

As you'll see the edges parallel to the direction of travel are sloped and therefore a tyre repeatedly running along this sloped edge will suffer increased wear on the inner sidewall. This is glaringly obvious to those capable of critical thinking.

Increased wear? So it's a steady process of WEAR AND TEAR on a CONSUMABLE ITEM that a driver should be checking on a daily basis on a company vehicle or hire car but NOT apparently on their own personal vehicle? So lets say weekly. Should they not be picking up the wear?

How will it get the sidewall? Any link you posted shows pictures of damage on the main running part of the tyre (where the tread is?) and not the sidewall.

yes wear on the edge as i said
    as for your final line
perhaps you should try debating your points without getting so tetchy
if not i'll have to take your eucalyptus from you

I'm struggling to see your point. All he is saying is that the design is in his opinion causing blowouts. He then follows up to say that he would like to organise a test to see how many speed humps it takes.

I can fully understand that potholes cause these type of accidents too. But potholes are not deliberately put on the road.

One person whom I don't thgink sensationalises this type of thing is honestjohn.

To me it is common sense that the design of these bumps will over time cause problems. What should be done is some research into them that will then quantify the problem.
