In my opinion the only way Deaths can be attributed to speed humps is the increase in response times for Ambulances when on calls.

My BIL is a paramedic and he tells me there are issues with speed humps damaging Ambulances.....
Good point made by Dacouch too.

I am not aware of anybody that has been killed by a speed hump. I am aware of many people that have been killed by cars.

Many factors can contribute to fatal road traffic accidents, the only thing that they all have in common is a vehicle, a driver and a victim.
    Gone ... or have I?

How easy is it to check the inner side walls for damage?

Whilst Inactive makes a good point about people driving over them 'properly' I am concerned about those who don't do so. Of course it's easy to say it's their fault for not going over them slowly yet if a blowout occurs on a motorway it usually involves an 'innocent' vehicle.

The fact remains that tests haven't been done to document their safety and due to the legal difficulties it is impossible to pin tyre failure to speed humps. Unless people take a more common sense approach to this instead of deciding there is little evidence therefore they're completely safe, nothing is going to change.

Common sense people - tyres are designed for tread to make contact with the road surface. That's why the tread depth has a legal minimum. Are the tyre sidewalls designed to run over the sloped sides of speed cushions?

Actually after midnight you get the odd speed hump that comes to life, nips into the local convenience store, buys a large knife and then stabs random members of the public.

Did you just come to this thread to throw it off topic? Of course humps don't directly kill people, it's their effect on car tyres that cause incidents.

How can there be REAL facts unless the studies have been done? The studies most probably never will be done because that then would make someone liable.

The speed humps the OP is talking about are those metal ones that allow emergency vehicles to pass over unencumbered becuse they are wide enogh to do so.

Car drivers that attempt the same thing suffer excessive wear and tear on the inner walls of their tyres.

So you all think they are safe?

You have still not provided any hard evidence to substantiate your opening thread title.

Speed humps are usually placed at specific points, schools, residential area's etc. to slow traffic, they achieve that aim in general terms, so save lives/injuries.

On balance they certainly save more lives than any damage caused by being driven over badly by a few morons, causing damage to their own vehicles.

    Yes, if driven over properly.

Do you know how to drive over them? If so please explain.
