As a member of a small operatic society I love the theatre & usually average at least one visit to see a show/play a month, sometimes a matinee & evening on the same day!!
Over the last 15 years or so I've seen all sorts of productions all over the country ranging from excellent amateur productions to absolutely cr*p professional shows!!
Top of my list has to be La Cage Aux Folles (has this closed now?), The 39 Steps (seen it 3 times with various friends and still laugh out loud every time!) and Wicked (seen this 3 times with family & friends of all ages and tastes and everyone has loved it)
I'd advise anyone to look on lastminute.com in advance of a visit or if you find yourself in London without plans you must visit the TKTS booth in Leicester Square for half price tickets. Also don't be afraid to be adventurous and see something you've never heard of - you might be pleasantly surprised!!
My most memorable occasion has to be Gwen Taylor in Shirley Valentine. I'd seen the film but didn't realise the stage version was a one woman show. Absolutely brilliant even down to the perfectly cooked egg and chips that she made from scratch at the end of Act 1. Don't know how she managed to cook them and remember her lines but they smelt gorgeous even from the balcony!!:j New Year, New You = 1.5lb/12lb:j0 -
Saw Oliver last week, was ok but to be honest a little disappointed with it.
But saw Billy Elliot Oct last year and that was fantastic.
We are going to see Lion King in March and looking forward to that.

Very funny, a bit rude but the songs are toe-tapping enough to have you randomly singing bits of the soundtrack after you've seen it. Highly recommended. It's only playing until April as well so I'd get in there quick!
It's moving theatre though so will still be available to see :beer:0 -

Can I urge everyone to go and see War Horse at the National Theatre. This is theatre at its absolute best with music, fun, pathos and the most amazing 'puppetry' you have ever seen. The horses just live and breathe on stage. It was a magical experience and based on a Michael Morpurgo story. Wonderful, I would go back again tomorrow like a shot - just need train ticket from Liverpool, hotel room and ticket for the theatre. Not asking too much is it?0

Highly Recommended: Oliver (before Jodie Prenger leaves!)
Priscilla (Tony Sheldon is brilliant)
Good: Dirty Dancing (great effects)
Sister Act (again great effects)
We Will Rock You
Didn't think much of: Wicked
Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
Grease (awful actually!)
Buddy
La Cage Aux Folles
Going to see Legally Blond on Saturday, Hairspray in March, and Jersey Boys in May.
Would like to see Mama Mia, Lion King, Blood Brothers, Les Mis, Phantom, and Love Never Dies. So a few to go yet!0 -
