I guess i missed the situation if his outgoings are high (as well as income)...but still....maybe im too romantic or something:o

There are good and bad people everywhere in life, I guess we are lucky if we have more convenient doctors and hospitals. (i know everyone pays for it)

I was not aware that commenting was now seen as 'berating' on this site. If there was a better way of monitoring how much medication was left in an inhaler, perhaps this issue wouldn't arise. I have to alter how much medication I have depending on my peak flow results - hence the difficulty in keeping track.

I will not be expressing any further opinions on this thread.

as already stated on this thread people who take regular medications do know how long inhalers last, we all have to take some responsability for our health, my step daughter is in the same boat but even at 10 she tells us when she thinks her inhaler is running out and we alway have a spare anyway just in case

Cookiemonster you beat me to it. If you do run out regularly then re-order early everytime and build up spares. Medication usually has a long expiry date on it so it shouldn't be a problem.

They stop hiring management analysts on £40k a year to find out where £5k's worth of towels have gone.

The NHS is being throttled by constant interference. It's like us here being told how we should go to the toilet. It's also not helped by these pillocks who sue them for £1m because they tried to commit suicide and the ambulance didn't get there in time to save their paralysis (true story too). Not that I'm uncaring towards people who are suicidal but sheeesh!!

It's not the government's job to literally run the NHS, and that's the problem.
I'm an NHS manager, and I do get fed up with the manager bashing...

Yes the NHS is throttled by interference, reorganisation, a government that doesn't know how to budget or plan but then is sh*t on at a great height for not jumping in soon enough.

To add to your story :D

A lady goes into her GP because she's concerned about her child's weight. She is upset because the GP is rude, arrogant and thinks he knows better than her. Why? The GP thinks she should visit an NHS nutritionist to discuss meal plans etc. Why do I need to do that, I can feed my kids alright, I don't need interferance because I give them veg. Just this afternoon, he had a packet of crisps, that's counting to the five a day thing.

    D*mned if you do & d8mned if you don't. - I couldn't make it up if I wanted to:rolleyes:

I have to stronly disagree with the title of this thread.

It would be a joke if it were a private company. (And how long would it last if it was?)

But it isn't a joke because I am paying for it, and you are, and you, and her over there^

Or perhaps the fact that the NHS grossly overpays for its medical supplies - presumably because their buyers just aren't up to the job of negotiating with suppliers (or maybe because of back-handers, who knows?)
Or perhaps because drugs and equipment are acyually much more expensive than people who moan about prescription charges know.

The "real" price of prescriptions is shown on the following website:-

    Amazing price differences!

The NHS is in a mess for several reasons, but I saw an article in yesterdays mail (I think) that fat people should pay more as should smokers and drinkers.

I agree, the NHS should cover accidents and illnesses not related to peoples excesses.

If a drunk is brought in on Friday night with injuries caused in a fight they should ask for his/her credit card. If someone who is obese has to have surgery because of their weight they should have to pay.

Maybe there should be a very basic, patch them up and send them home service for free, but definately no frills.

Without wanting to appear discriminatory, there are far too many people on the DLA, many given free cars and other perks that cost a fortune that would otherwise be available to the NHS.

There is no such thing as a free lunch, the NHS has to be paid for and at the moment we are not paying enough. Wether or not money is being wasted by politicians is irrelevant, they dont get elected by accident.

so raymond if i get hit tomorrow by some nutter through no fault of my own i should pay???
and why stop at obese people....lets ban alcoholics too ., or those who look the wrong way whilst crossing the road., or those who break limbs falling off horses( they get on them of their own free will.)..after all its their own fault ( i am being sarcastic by the way:D ) having worked in the nhs for over 20 years i pride myself that i would not show discrimination to anyone, after all there but the grace of god,

and incidently the managers we now see in many areas of the nhs are clinical staff who help the systems work better as they have worked on the wards themselves...so not all managers are the enemy...far from it these days
some of the most iinivotive ideas come from NHS staff, who often work many extra hours ach week that they are not paid for to ensure patients are kept safe and well
I say a huge thanks you to colleages and staff who work hard to ensure that the NHS is a service to be proud of :T :T :p

I do think casualty departments and some nurses are not always the best.

I was in a car accident last year had my foot in plaster due to an operation before this and was in casualty all night and still didnt get seen because the hospital preferred to deal with each and every drunk that came in covered in blood after fighting. I felt it was unfair and I would not bother going again unless I was carried in by ambulance but then I waited all night once when casualty was empty the ambulance man told the woman i had a deep laceration (not my fault I do not drink!)- I had a severed hand and I was left for hours then I fell off the bed after bleeding profusely, the nurse came (she was with thh Dr up to goodness knows what) in blood everywhere she shouted at me why did I not tell her - I was half conscious - not one other person in casualty - no apology just stitched me up (he had never done that before) with glass in my hand and then a few weeks later I had to have it unstitched and an operation done. I had to have my hand in the air and the nurse shouted at me for asking her to help me on with my dressing gown.

I have had nice nurses who looked after me when I gave birth and my babies died.

I have been left to wee the bed by nurses to busy to take me to the loo last year when I had a foot op and finally I have been slapped by nurses for asking for their help. I do not blame the NHS I blame some of their staff who are lazy and unkind to their patients.
