I cannot stand cooked salmon any more, and it started a few years ago, when we had grilled salmon steaks two or three times a week. The smell would pervade the whole house, even with the extractor going and the windows open.
However, I have chucked away some meat recently, because I thought it smelled a bit "iffy". I wonder if the mind is a very powerful device when it comes to sub conscious decision making.0 -
I raised a thread on this a few months back. I chucked the mince too, smelled like wet dog. I find it particularly happens when the mince is a bit fatty. I get the same thing with lamb. It makes me physically sick. I get OH to brown the mince now where I can, then I take over as normal
I also admit to being paranoid about the smell of chicken, if it still smells funny after a rinse I have to chuck it. I wouldn't care, I used to work in a butchers' when I was younger, and nothing there phased me.

You might be coming to your senses and turning veggie;):D"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Similar thing happened to my Mum, she's veggie, not because of ethical erasons, just because she can't stand the smell/taste/texture of meat, started when she was a teenager. Maybe your body thinks you don't need it at the moment. Stragely enough now she's going thru the "change" she's started eating meat very occaisonally - I told her her body must need something in it. But maybe yours is the opposite at the moment.June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

I agree with ragz. im veggie but also not for ethical reason i just dont like the smell & texture of flesh, just go veggie for a bit you will either stay veggie or start craving a bacon butty at somepoint
Im happy to cook meat for the kids, except lamb i wont even have that in the house it smells rotten raw or cooked0 -
i also can't stand the smell of cooking mince or a pork joint in the early stage of cooking....
if you fry a chopped onion (and a bit of garlic) with the mince it doesn't smell as bad...with the pork i seal it in the tin with foil till it passes that initial cooking/smelling stage..0 -

I was very strictly veggi for years because I hate the smell of cooking meat and the texture of it. I eat a little meat now, but not very much. I used to hide upstairs when my mum started cooking the sunday roast because I found the smell so abhorrent.
I also hate the smell of brown bread, fish, goats cheese and milk.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -

My thought exactly as I was reading the OP's post...I want to be credit card and loan free by Christmas 20100 -
This thread makes me laugh as I go through really odd stages of going off foods for no good reason, often just as I start cooking them (kids and hubby eat it all fine!!)
For years I couldn't eat meat, baked beans and fish cos of the smell.... I love the taste of lamb but the smell when cooking is horrid??
Has gone to play on her own little world for a bit..... but its ok the voices in her head came too so she's not alone0 -
Hi Declutterqueen :hello:
I have added your thread to the existing one of Paulie Girls on smelly meat , so we can keep all the discussion together.
I'll be very honest in saying I really can't stand the smell of [STRIKE]wet dog[/STRIKE] raw meat. It makes me feel quite ill. I used to be very squeamish about even handling meat but I am slowly pushing my limits and getting over it. I can't rely on my nose to tell me whether meat is off as I think it all smells vile - so I simply make sure to freeze as soon as posisble, or use as soon as possible. Mince and chicken in particular smell gross to me
I don't think your body is necessarily telling you to become a veggie. I have considered it quite recently, but realised how much meat I use, even on a small scale. As long as I make educated consumer choices (where my meat comes from, free range etc), then I am happy with my conscience.
thanks
