And in my previous life I would have just ordered a takeaway :A:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Hi lynz
I'm no expert, but it may be worth appealing against the DLA decision. I had this with my Mother a few years ago and so starting asking around and talking to people, quite a few had been successful on the second attempt.
zippy x0 -
oooh thanks zippy, Ill look into that
But not today, got other stuff to do, so busy:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Elantan, glad you confirmed it, I was told that, they turn you down in the hope you will go away, it's disgusting, I couldn't persuade my mother to appeal, she felt so ill she couldn't cope with it.0 -
lynzpower wrote:Well, mixed news this morning. Ive been turned down for DLA, so thats that, apparently im not ill enough. Never mind, It was a long shot.
Also opnened my mail to find I wont get my referral bonus for my A&L, not sure if its about the referral for getting one, or me referring OH. In any case, theres cash I aint getting!
Off for the union meeting later today, going shortly. Watch this space
On the plus side, our bedroom and the garden are now completed. I have to tidy the spare room this afternoon when I get back and with a touch of luck I can get this to presentation standard tomorrow.
I want as much done as poss, Im going into hospital on wednesday as outpatient, but it may create some pain and the last thing Im going to want to do is any cleaning.
We simply HAVE to complete the hall and kitchen this weekend, and next week, Im having the estate agents round. :j If Im not up to it, poor OH will have to do the donkey work on his lonesome
LYNZPOWER! Sorry for shouting:o - just hoping to get your attention hun.
I was on low rate care and low rate mobility for the last 3 years. Took ages to get and it wasn't until I went to DIAL who filled in the 50 page form (ok - slight exaggeration:rolleyes: ) that I got it. CAB also fill in these forms with you. No matter how clever you are, there are special ways to put your info across & DIAL & CAB are the experts!
FYI, any physical and/OR mental ill health can be bad enough for you to qualify - it's not just physical.
At the beginning 2005, - God I can't type this fast enough - I got pains in my left knee (40 yrs old at time) - thought I'd just hurt it but it got worse and harder to walk. Went to the [STRIKE]vet[/STRIKE] err, GP & he referred me to Rheumatologist at hospital. Yep, clever old me got arthritis and some osteoarthritis and ligament damage.
By summer I needed a walking stick, by September, it was in both legs and I was on crutches and sometimes had to use wheelchair in supermarket. Hospital Dr said I'd got an aggressive form of arthritis - that's me, always over-achieving! - and so I applied for a higher rate of DLA. Filled in form, sent off, 12 weeks later, (and some) I was told I'd been turned down because as I was able to use my hands to use crutches, I was mobile and didn't need any more help!!! :wall:
I wrote back with DIAL's help to appeal, letting them know that I have carpal tunnel syndrome in both arms and that when my hands are numb if I use the crutches, I do the falling over thing. I do have other problems too but DIAL couldn't believe the reply I'd received turning me down AGAIN, so they put me in touch with Welfare Rights Advice Service (you have to be referred) who said they'd appeal on my behalf. By now, it's early May 2006 & we're waiting for an appeal panel date to go to Birmingham.
Within 8 weeks, they backed down and approved my application before it even went to the panel . Welfare Rights told me that the DLA had just gone on the info on my form the first time and then on info from my phone call the second time asking them to reconsider. They had NEVER contacted ANY of my medical team ( the size of the British Olympic team!) at ANY point!
As of August 2006, I'm pleased to say I am in receipt of highest rate care and mobility and I received around £5000 in back-dated benefit!!!!! (one ! for each thousand):D
Everyone, PLEASE appeal. PLEASE see the pro's for the form filling. PLEASE apply if it's purely a mental health illnesses you have.
If your health is affecting your everyday quality of life you should apply - that's what it's there for.
I'm so sorry for the length of this everyone but I just wanted to let you know of my personal experience. Feel embarrased now.:o I hope I've managed to help you or anyone else in your situation. Take care lynzpower. And congrats on the flat! :T
