You know people should realise this board people can say what they want. If anyone disagrees with it they are welcome to argue agasint it but I do not think its right to start telling people they shouldn't post on a subject anymore. Subjects will natrually come to an end not when people decide they come to an end (apart from moderators close them. Obviously)
Thank you, I just did say what I wanted and you told me what I shouldn't post.
Do read post 51, there's a love. Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Thank you very much Foreign Correspondent for another lesson.
I have had dogs in past and I am very much aware what it brings. Also I am not a child but grown up woman with a brain.
I wouldn't mind but I have already mentioned that here before. It just sounds that one has to constantly deffend their actions before the GODS of this forum.
Dya know something, last October I was about to get a Dog & posted here for advice, the difference being I was happy to recieve any & all advice, as despite having qualifications & having worked with Dogs & also having lived much of my life with Dogs that belonged to others, I *still* didn't & don't know everything. Anything I knew or that was irrelevant I simply thanked & didn't use that advice, but I also got lots & lots of good advice & totally changed my mind on where to get a Dog & ended up with the perfect Dog.
FC, myself & others, whether those who buy from a breeder or a rescue, just want the person getting the dog to know what they're letting themselves in for, we understand that you're an experienced owner but to be fair, lots of people *think* they are but really aren't & it never hurts to mention everything we can think of both good & bad, cause it may just be something that's changed since whoever had dogs before, or something they never thought of.0 -
I had dogs many years ago. My DD1 wanted a dog more than anything for years and years. I finally agreed to it nearly 2 years ago. We went to the library and gots lots of books on having puppies, crates were mentioned so many times but I wasn't sure about one as crates were a new thing to me. I could see the practical side, a room of her own, no piddle on floor while she wandered around at night but I thought it sounded awful locking her up. Well I read more and decided to give the crate a try and it was wonderful. She's retriever and we bought an extra large crate.
The breeder always left a blanket with the mum the night before someone was collecting one of the lovely babies, the breeder also kept a blanket up her jumper so the pup would have 2 blankets with comforting smells.
The first night home we put the pup in her crate with her blankets about 12pm, the crate was in the hall downstairs. She cried for about 20 minutes the first night but then settled, DD1 got up at 5am to put her out for a wee then put her back in the crate until 7am.
Second night 5 minutes crying and by the third night only a wimper.
I stayed up until minight and DD1 continued to get up at 5am for a few weeks. I realised pup was actually asleep by 10 and didn't want a piddle at 12 so started to go to bed earlier.
She stayed in her crate when we went out in the day, initially only for a short time. She went in her crate when she wanted a bit of time out even though she had a basket in the living room too.
To everyone getting puppies I hope you get as much pleasure out of them as we do from ours. Just incase the novelty has worn off yet for DD1, the answer is no, she's still the first up in the morning and out for a walk for half an hour before anyone else has even stirred, she can't get enough of her.0 -
Gee, you are such a killjoy!foreign_correspondent wrote: »hope both the OHs are ready for the reality of puppy owning!!
Warn them to place anything they don't want chewed out of pups reach, and do be realistic about the mess and difficulties of owning a pup, and the amount of time it will take up - better to get this out of the way now than to have to deal with a disgruntled OH after the pup has chewed the remote, his best shoes, and widdled and pood on the carpet!
It may also be worth while considering who will pay for insurance, vets bills etc before the dog comes along to save conflicts later!0 -
You couldn't be any more condescending if you tried. :rolleyes:UKTigerlily wrote: »Dya know something, last October I was about to get a Dog & posted here for advice, the difference being I was happy to recieve any & all advice, as despite having qualifications & having worked with Dogs & also having lived much of my life with Dogs that belonged to others, I *still* didn't & don't know everything. Simply saying people don't need to kick off if they get advice they don't want & others find it helpful! I'm sure if people have a baby they think of everything including money things, so why not for a dog? Mentioning things can't hurt, but it can point out stuff people may not have thought of, if you don't like it you don't have to do it or read it0
