Just to get this 100% straight, do you have Virgin Cable (i.e. Virgin Media) or Virgin National (ADSL) broadband?
Just seems a bit odd if the forme,r because why would you also have a BT line if you don't use that for phone calls?
If you only have Virgin National ADSL, then you can't get more than an 'up to 8MBps' service on that line.
Correct, you need to try and sort out the Virgin speed problem before you do anything else.

The only reason I can think of why he's got cable BBand & TV with a BT phone is if the street cab or Mux has a capacity issue of no spare krone ports.
I've came across that before,mostly of the smaller 'E' cabinets.

its just broadband with virgin and not cable but they keep telling me i shouldnt be getting 4mb and more like 14mb so i dont know what to believe but with talk talk im not going no where near it,dont trust these sales people lying all the time, so ill sort virgin out and if they cant do anything then cancel virgin and go elsewhere,not sure where and who is best so if anyone can help it would be great, thanks

Right,so it's ADSL Broadband & NOT Cable Broadband then?
In that case I refer you to post #2 in that your line can ONLY HANDLE speeds of around 6.5Mbps!
O2 told me when I signed up I could get 14Mbps even tho I know for a fact I can only get 6.5Mbps!

So that explains it, you can't possibly get 18MBps on an Virgin ADSL line, 6.5MBps is pretty good, as the theoretical max is 8MBps on a normal ADSL line. If Virgin told you up to 20MB then you need to take it up with them, as you have been mis-sold. You'll need to prove this if you want to cancel within the minimum term.

Just to clear something up you do not need a speed boost on TalkTalk Pro to benefit from the BRAS cap being placed at 24 meg as aposed to 8. This tariff offeres a connection speed of upto 24 meg. With the attenuation we can give you an idea of what the connection speed would be - you should be able to get this from your router stats. For an 18 meg synch speed you would be looking at an attenuation between 7 - 12.5dB.

cancelled talk talk and going to solve this matter with virgin. what options do i have just got for a cheaper provider? can i get fast speed broadband? im with o2 mobile so i can get there broadband cheaper.is it worth paying for a 8mb service or can i get faster.just abit lost on all this

So are we....No point going higher than O2's standard because your phone line IS NOT CAPABLE of speeds any higher than around 6.5Mbps!!!
Unless you want to waste your money on something you CANNOT get! IE Higher speeds than 6.5Mbps ish.

I would refer you to post no. 16. You're in contract to Virgin for at least a year, so what's the point in trying to move again?
