Hi i have just gone with virgin and not happy with there speeds i am on a 20mb and only get 4mb so i have decided to go with talk talk and got an email saying i will be paying £26.24 for broadband and line rental but i got an email saying i can get upto 18.1mb.

But on this email it only says 8mb i dont know whats going on.

is this the best deal or can i go elsewhere. here is my postcode le7 1gq.
i need to sort this out pretty quick as they havent connected anything yet but will do in about 12days.

First off,if you are on a CABLE phone line & do not have a BT PSTN phoneline installed,you need one as you CANNOT get ADSL BBand on a VM Cable line.

Secondly,going by your postcode,you will not get anywhere near 18Mbps as the BT Wholesale checker advises a speed of around 6.5Mbps.

samknows.com indicates that you can get around 6.5MBps only on ADSL Max (that's using a random address in that postcode), Sky are the only LLU provider offering ADSL2+ on the Goscote exchange, so I'd be taking TT's speed estimate with a large pinch of salt. Isn't TT Pro supposed to be only available to existing customers?

What I don't understand is why your speed is so slow on Virgin cable? If you are on the 20MB service then you should be able to get something aproaching that speed-what did Virgin say about it? How are you going to terminate your contract if you've only just migrated to them?

so talk talk wont change anything? if so ill cancel it. also dont want to be paying a massive bill to switch from bt phone to talk talk as i dont use the phone. what should i do? im cancelling virgin anyway but not sure who to go with.

That's because they are a dodgy lot. You'll need to pay another £4 a month for their Turbo Boost in order to get speeds over 8MB, but that is only if you line is capable.

this talk talk pro is a new thing:

Talktalk Pro is a new package open to existing customers of talktalk, which i imagine will be made available to new customers soon.

These details are a copy/paste from the Talktalk intranet by the way. Existing customers who wish to get Talktalk Pro have to call customer services and ask to change over to Talktalk Pro.

But have you already got a working BT line? If not then you have no other option but Virgin anyway.
Why don't you tell us what you have done to try and improve the speed on Virgin? You can't just cancel it as you will be hit with a 12m early termination fee.
Going by what you've told us, you won't get more than about 6.5MB on TT. And an email saying 'up to 18.1MB' means exactly that. It could also mean you will actually get 1MB.

It could be down to a lot of things,from being on the wrong Tap & Port in the cabinet which it'self could be faulty,wrong size of drop cable,badly fitted F connectors,faulty splitter ect.The installer should check the signal levels with a meter when he's doing the install but often dont. (they get paid by the job & to check takes too long,they can squeeze in another job.....)
I once had a fault I went back to over 3 times but every time I got there the BBand was OK.Turned out he had a cubed illigal analogue box & was disconnecting it when I was due,clearing the fault!:mad:

Ideally he needs a Service Engineer out to check it out.Or he may have a PC virus.

i have a bt line and virgin broadband but im not going with talk talk as i will have to pay for a cancellation fee for them and virgin so not worth it,ill just sort it out with talk talk to cancel it now while i can. virgin are adament that they can give me 14-16mb so ill try and sort it out with them first before doing anything else. if i do cancel with virgin whats my next option
