Asda dropping petrol prices to 76.9p

Try telling Tesco and Sainsbury in Camberley. Partners in crime. Always the last to reduce prices and then always identical.

Two points, I've been buying diessel for a long time, low sulphur has been around for quite a while and the difference with petrol is increasing dramatically. I don't think that this has much to do with production costs, it is mostly a market decision.
I agree it's a market decision. But little complaints from the odd customer aren't going to affect this market decision.
A 3p differential between petrol and diesel (the maximum amount I've seen in general until the last price reduction on petrol) is nothing exceptional. It's not valid to say that the differential is "increasing dramatically". The differential is ALWAYS higher in the winter, and less in the summer. And in the summer it can be as little as no difference at all.
Information on the actual costs of production of petrol and diesel are hard to obtain, because of commercial confidentiality, but this study: here suggests a 2p differential - i.e. diesel costs 2p more per litre to make than petrol.
Given that the duty on ULSP and ULSD is identical, at 47.1 ppl, how is it a conspiracy for there to be a long-term average price differential of 2p between petrol and diesel?
I am sure that the current short-term price war will be precisely that - short-term - and that we will see diesel prices around 2p above petrol prices come the spring, reflecting the long-term average and the difference in production costs.
Meanwhile, I agree that it's painful - I drove past an Esso garage today with a 6.6p differential - OUCH!0 -
Our Tesco has dropped the price of petrol to 76.9 and our diesel to 80.9 on Thurs/Fri. Our local Asda which is across the road is still 2 pence dearer with its diesel.
I also happen to know that from next week there is a promotion for 5p off a litre when you spend £50 in store, in selected stores only. (usually the ones who have an Asda nearby!).if i had known then what i know now0 -
Low & behold the cartel in Newark have decided to lower their prices, 82.9p per litre for petrol, diesel remains 86.9p per litre.............now how do I get to Lincoln?
>:( >:(I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure!0 -
But you'd have to travel 5 years back into the past to take advantage of it.0
