DHL gives most companies a great deal and the service is vastly superior. And they are easier to deal with on non-delivery on the client side. About 2/3rds of my personal parcel deliveries are via non RM services now.

Sorry to say this Custardy, but the demise of the RM is accelerating, and the strikes aren't helping. Pretty much everyone in the private sector who looks at the RM is incredulous that the staff haven't figured out how much danger their jobs are in due to this very ill advised industrial action.

I can't remember the last time I sent a letter from my company. Everything we do is via PDFs in e-mails now, which is instant and more reliable, and direct marketing is done by e-mail and the web which gives us a better more targetted system.

That's the backdrop to this strike Custardy: massively declining business due to technological changes. If you decide to put at risk the business you have and give customers the option to evaluate competition, you will LOSE BUSINESS. Every private sector company knows this, it is far easier to lose a customer than gain one, and from a status quo where the easiest thing to do is to pop something in a mailbag, the postal workers are creating a situation where we are ACTIVELY looking at what is around and wondering why we didn't bother before because the service is far better.

It's a gift for your competitors. If one of my competitors refused to supply reliably, we'd be straight onto their customers telling them what we can do.

Anyway, you'll find out. Probably the hard way, but that's your problem rather than your customers.

as ive posted before(feel free to ACTIVELY look) the drop in business is exaggerated by RM
at the same time using these figures to calculate what is achievable in a duty span
i cant be bothered reposting the same stuff over and over so search away

if you only use DHL for packages then i assume you are comparing DHL to RM special delivery or more aptly parcelforce
  • Well the strike's certainly had some effect.

I've just had my mail delivered. Think it's the earliest it has been all year! (I'm not fussed about the time of delivery but it has been about midday for quite some time now)
If it’s not important to you, don’t consume it

You're in a fantasy world Custardy. The reality is that in today's world, if you irritate your customers, they punish you. This strike is irritating your customers and demonstrating that the RM is not a partner businesses can trust. So other means of delivery are being evaluated. Had you not taken strike action, many would not have bothered, they'd just sling the outgoing packet mail into the postbag as normal.

I hate to say it's a 1970s timewarp, but you can't really escape that conclusion.

interesting,so when did i enter the timewarp?
had we not taken strike action RM would have continued on the course they are/were heading
my eyes are sadly wide open
slinging a packet into the postbag isnt the issue for RM
    its the bigger picture
RM are paying lip service to modernisation and just pushing a slash and burn programme
what are your views on down stream access?
    the pricing of services?
    the USO?

I remember it being a bit of a furore when post ceased to be on the breakfast table for opening. TBH it concerned me.

Now our post doesn't arrive until midday, by which time obviously I'm half way through a day at work.

I think it was all blown out of proportion at the time, & to be honest does it really matter what time the post arrives, as long as it arrives safely? It doesn't bother me. I don't have time to open my post before I go to work, & to be honest I don't want to either. Actually, because I don't get that much post, I only tend to open stuff once or twice a week - all in one go when I have a spare hour.

One factor of the credit crunch I've liked is the severe downturn in the number of pre-approved credit cards/loans that I no longer get.

I would suggest that the majority of the public have a good perspective on their individual postie. Ours is great IMO, & is well aware of good customer service - not afraid to use initiative with parcel delivery if no-one is in.

I've had a few things delivered to me by courier. & IMO their service is poor. I've had stuff just left outside the house, prominently, all day etc. There are firms who I've contacted & advised I will not order from them again because of their poor courier service.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.
