Thanks kenny - that's a good idea - at least then he would have a spare pair - something else you don't get and you really need with an active boy who can't see without wearing his glasses!

Interesting you say about customers with double figure prescriptions - I wonder if it's only these very high prescriptions (eg. -10 or more) that ASDA make a loss on? I would have thought they were also making a loss on prescriptions on 1.67/1.7 lenses too (as well as the very, very thin ones), but maybe not?

Does anyone know what the REAL cost of these lenses are? And just what type of mark-up customers are paying? (I know lots of frames only cost a few pounds to make).

I couldn't supply one pair of 1.6 or 1.67 complete with designer frames for £90 let alone 2 pairs! Either Asda are loss-leading or are getting discounts of 75% plus from their suppliers. Hope that puts things into perspective.

I have already posted on this thread saying how disappointed I was that my prescription was not catered for after I had been told there would be no difficulty.. I was delighted to receive a phone call from the local branch to say that my prescription was now included in the offer and would I care to order. Happily I had not gone elsewhere although I had made a few enquiries. The cheapest I could get for ONE pair was £270. Asda will do two pairs for £230 including reactolite varifocals. I discovered the lenses were Hoya made but rebranded as Asda and my optician was of the opinion that although the offer was not limited, if they did not get the appropriate increase in market share from the offer, it would be pulled. Since Specsavers best lenses are from Pentax, a subsidiary of Hoya I reckon they (Specsavers) must be very worried indeed. Am told time lag is 2 and a half weeks now. A friend of mine with a much weaker prescription has already got her specs and is delighted!! Will report, assuming this thread is still open, when I take delivery.:beer:

I picked up my 2 pairs this week and I'm really pleased. Excellent customer service and a nice choice of frames including rimless which I wanted. I'm very happy to have 2 pairs with 1.67 index lenses in each for £90 when the 2 pairs would have cost me at least £249 in Specsavers with the thinner lenses in both pairs.

30 years of 1970's = £150, 1980's = £180, 1990's = £200, 2000's = £250+ for ONE pair:eek:

Never ever had the offer of ONE thin pair for less than £100, never mind two. And that includes my year of woe when I was entitled to max NHS help.:rolleyes:

Ordered mine Saturday, arranged to pay for them next Tuesday which is double discount day meaning i get 20% off, so very happy with two pairs for £72.00

I picked my two pairs up from milton keynes Asda on Saturday and am very pleased with them.
I paid £140 for two pairs that was an extra £20 per lens on one pair of glasses to have the super thin lens as my prescription is very strong(milk bottle tops)
Then I paid £10 to have the other pair of glasses as Sunglasses.
My last pair of glasses I paid £100 to have the super thin lens.
This offer is fantastic.
