Oh do tell, by the the way my acer works great as a lappy but my desktop is a dell............ my son's comp is another brand, all work fine, all are subject to regular and thorough housekeeping. Once I get out of my depth some kind soul on here helps me.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

From my experience at work, we do get a lot of Acer returns, but we get more HP and Toshiba laptops returned. The thing is, we sell a lot more Acers by far, so I wouldn't say they're any more prone to failure than the others.
In fact, the only manufacturer whose laptops I've never seen come back would be Samsung, but we don't sell many of theirs....0 -
we bought an Acer Aspire X130, which was stolen whilst in transit from Acer, replaced with an Acer Aspire X381. Both have faulty power switches - can't turn the power on. This is a base unit for a home PC not a laptop. I understand there are other complaints about this on the web - anyone seen any or can direct me to someplace? Thanks, I want to help my solicitor with some background info.0

I direct you to your retailerSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

Why are you involving a solicitor ? Unless you haven't said something, your retailer is the first point of contact.0 -
I am guessing the poster has already been to Acer and had an unsatisfactory result. I wouldn't buy an Acer laptop as I know several friends and family who have had problems with them. Acer have been reluctant to repair and when they have the repair hasn't lasted.
The Consumer Direct site has good info:

deleted because ... The entire saga is lengthy and I can't publish it while solicitor is chewing it over.0

I refused to ring their 50p a minute technical helpline and phoned Tesco, where I bought the laptop. They replaced it with a new one. We were thrilled. So it's worth going to the retailer. And remember your contract is with the retailer not the manufacturer - unless you bought it direct from Acer.
Good luck.
Is this the same with mail order catalogues? USually they say their products will be delivered direct from the manufacturer and it is their responsibliity if it breaks down, but since the catalogues take a profit i think it might be up to them too.Owed out = lots. :cool:0
