Are Acer going bust?

Does anyone have any info as to whether Acer are going down the pan or anything? I have 2 fairly new Acer Aspire laptops, both of which required replacement motherboards. Fair enough - luck of the draw. On my first repair, I spoke to very nice, knowlegeable people here in the UK. The repair turnaround was 4 days which I was very impressed with.
When it came to getting the second laptop repaired, I found the call centre had changed to a typical Asian centre where the staff where just obviously reading from a tick-list. That wasn't as bad as what came after, though. The laptop has now been with Acer for 3 weeks with no explanation as to why it is being delayed. For the past week it's got so I'm calling them every other day for an update but it's getting me nowhere. I reckon they are going down the pan and I've lost my laptop. Unless anyone knows different? By the way, they don't even have an e-mail service for enquiries!

In answer to your question: No they are not going down the pan. They just produce crap products and offer awful customer service.

I wouldn't recommend Acer products to anyone for the same problems you have encountered. Yes they seem really good value, but in the long term I have seen way to many failed Acer Laptops.

If your disappointed with the service, forget the phone and email and send a letter recorded delivery giving them a reasonable amount of time to respond.

  • Must admit I can't complain the Acer I bought a couple of years ago has been brilliant and never a bit of bother.
  • I recently sent an Acer laptop back to them for repair under warranty. The service was excellent but when it arrived back it wouldn't connect to the internet. I refused to ring their 50p a minute technical helpline and phoned Tesco, where I bought the laptop. They replaced it with a new one. We were thrilled. So it's worth going to the retailer. And remember your contract is with the retailer not the manufacturer - unless you bought it direct from Acer.

    Good luck.

Well sorry but that is wrong, as I have spoken to them before through email - that is how I organised the return to them of my dodgy Acer Laptop. Never again.

I had an Acer laptop for 5 years which worked perfectly and never had any fault and I only replaced it because it was so slow to do anything due to everything needing faster and better computers.

Why is it that every thread even mentioning Acer always ends up with half the people going "Acer are great" and the rest going "Acer are rubbish" with only about two posts per page offering any useful info?
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

The OP posted problems with ACER. I posted my postive ACER experience just to balance things out. If someone found this thread when trying to decide if to buy an ACER they might think ACER are rubbish computers which always go wrong if its all negative comments. Every post that criticises a brand always has people saying they haven't had problems. Those who don't have postive posts probably are rip offs.

Where is the useful information in that post?
