The laptop has now been with Acer for 3 weeks with no explanation as to why it is being delayed. For the past week it's got so I'm calling them every other day for an update but it's getting me nowhere.

So what exactly have they said to you when you ring for an update?

Where is the useful information in that post?

    Nowhere :p

It wasn't so much that I was saying people are posting unuseful things, just that it's always Acer who seem to spark these sort of debates. They really are like Marmite....you either love it or put it in a cupboard until it's out of date.

My post kinda came out wrong...see what happens when I post before I've had tea in the morning? :D

I regret buying the acer laptop last year but maybe the fault i recently had with it may have happened with another laptop so its hard to tell if another brand would have been different

That was my one day off this week! At 8.41 today, I'll have been awake over 2 hours and at work for half an hour. Where I sell Acers (see, post is relevant :p)

I finally got my Acer laptop back after a 3 week turnaround for replacing the motherboard and optical drive. What is particularly annoying is that after a few days of Acer receiving the laptop, the on-line status facility was updated to "Under Testing" for the remaining 2.5 weeks! When I rang the service number, the help desk was unable to give any more information or forecast of completion. The best reply I was given was to leave it for another week, phone back and he would make it a priority. I expected the time frame to be in days, not weeks!
By the way, if sending a laptop for repair, I have learnt not to send the battery pack with it. I'll put it down to coincidence that both laptop repairs came back with unchargeable batteries, when there was no previous indication of a fault.

The reasons so many people hate Acer is because so many do fail. Every IT professional I have ever known would avoid them like the plague.

You get what you pay for im afraid.

This doesnt mean every Acer will fail - which is why you get lots of "i love my acer" comments, it just means that more fail proportianly than a better make such as Tosh, HP etc.
  • I think a lot of it is that some people don't know what they're doing with their computers and they cause the problems. Then they rant on about how the m/c's are crap and often they are full of virus's and spyware.
Not saying this is you, saying this is often the case.

So you are saying that people that dont know what they are doing buy Acer? ;)
Because logically if your argument was true equal numbers of people would be saying other makes are also crap....

If this is true - i feel for acer...
    (tongue in cheek comment)
