Enforced free P&P on Ebay listings

The media insertion fees are less than they were anyway, they are 10p for over 99p with free gallery. So around 18 months ago they were 15p and above plus 15p gallery, surprising that most only notice the increased fees and not the decreased ones. QUOTE]
Don't forget though, every time they reduce a front end fee they have increased the final value fee.
I've not done the maths as to whether a sale now ends up being cheaper than 18 months ago when all fees are taken into account.0 -
ebay are no better than thieves. Now, if you want to sell a book on ebay, not only do they force you to pay for the postage on books, thery force you to give them 10% of the postage that you have to pay for. If postage costs £10 (whuich it can on really heavy books) they get to keep at least £1.00. That is no better than theft.0

Or a business making a profit, they don't force anyone to sell on there, some would say they do their best to discourage it. That's probably the strangest definition of theft I've ever heard.Jude_the_Shrewd wrote: »ebay are no better than thieves. You shouldn't really ever pay £10 for UK postage on a book, unless its over 20kg, you could get a much cheaper courier rate..0 -

If one of the heavy books you are selling is a Dictionary I think you need to look up the word Theft and Thieves. Thieves take money/articles against your will. You agree to pay them fees when you use there service. If you can find somewhere else that you can get worldwide exposure for the fees you pay why don't you sell there? Remember Amazon fees are higher (strange we don't get threads moaning about these) Ebid don't have the customers as do Green Metropolis.0 -
probably better off donating them to a charity shop as your not going to get much for it.
Or just throw it in the bin, after reading a thread on here recently it appears that a lot of items given to charity (in good condition), end up being thrown out due to lack of space and being made to move stock by the powers above. :shocked:Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -

Awww bless!!!
That's not theft, that's simply the cost of using the most popular service.
ebay is not run by some spotty teenager sat in a bedroom trying to impress his mates, it is a huge global business with the sole intention of making money, and lots of it.
Don't like it? Don't use it.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
Think you've missed the point. I've no objection to paying ebay's commission on the sale price, or paying for listing fees. What I do object to is not being able to charge postage as a separate item. £10 was an example to make it easy...so let's say postage costs £4.45 on a book weighing just over a kilo. I don't charge extra on postage, but now ebay calculates that postage in the fvf, which means that our postage now costs us around 10%, or 45p, more than it did a week ago. If you think that's fair, I think you're a bit too uncritical, or working for ebay. Just roll over and accept everything without complaint? Hmmm.0

I was forced to give free P&P when I sold some 35mm camera films a few weeks back when they last had a free listing weekend. I raised the starting bid to try and cover it but I still came away out of pocket.
I will now only ever use eBay to sell big ticket items where I'm almost certain to make a profit.0 -
I am still surprised that anyone would use ebay without looking at the profit
I don't just sell high end goods, but the only time I don't make a profit is because I've been stupid and mis typed postage or such like..I wouldn't list anything without knowing my end result first. You should have worked that out before you sold it. You may have been better with a BIN0
