OS Daily Thread - Tuesday 20 October

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 20th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS friends,
Wow it's chilly this morning!
Pen-Pen!! Enjoy yourself today!
Cranky - still sending love and hugs your way, make sure you rest, your body is telling you it needs it.
Noahs - Hope Noah is feeling better today

Noahs - Hope Noah is feeling better today
candy - Gosh, a year already. The first one is always the worst I think. Big hugs to you sweetie.
Celyn - you are so talented hon!
Lowesy - Glad you had a great anniversary hon.
Molly - Big Diva hugs for you, as you definitely need them!
Hilstep - Nice to read you again and well done on the carers award.
Sunnyday - Thanks! x
Ruby - that is great news - in your new home by Christmas I hope.
Haribo - Geez you have some fab things wash up on your beach!! I want to come live there..
My friend who lost her father was away over the weekend so didn't ring her but yesterday was her first day back at work so we had a long chat last night. Well, she chatted and I squeaked as my voice is still MIA. I felt a bit drained afterwards and actually went to bed for an hour. Couldn't get warm but the OH brought me a hot water bottle so that helped!
She and her partner are coming down for dinner tonight but no cooking for us, it's going to be a takeaway - their choice. Lunch however will be home made bread with home made hummus. I made it without sesame seeds but it still tastes fab, though technically I guess it's 'chick pea, olive oil, garlic and a touch of chilli spread'.
Haven't spoken to Tris for a couple of nights so will hang around for an hour and then mail him and go back to bed. I just ordered a wireless modem from Amazon with some vouchers I earnt from review writing. Suddenly I will be a roving reporter - though admittedly only roving around my home!
Anyway, I feel like I am really boring this morning (why should this morning be any different I hear you say
) so will sign off.
With love, light and
for everyone who would like one.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Morning.
Raining down this way, although not as stormy as first predicted. Another day off for me, no plans yet, although my son wants to visit the forces careers office and see what he can do in the RAF.
Celebrated my daughters's birthday with a big roast lamb dinner and pretend champagne. My folks came over so that was a nice evening.
Built a compost heap compound yesterday with old wood, and galvanise sheets, I think that will work well. Got the weed killer out too!
Well enjoy your day...... CheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning everyone.
Husband and I went out riding yesterday and tipped the bike. We were going to yeild for the driver so he could go but he stopped so as we started to go he went! So husband made a hard stop and lost balance and my first thought was *don't let the bike get scratched* so I tried holding it (a harley is not light..that's for sure) with my legs and arms. in the end though..I hurt my wrist a bit and my hip is killing me but aside from that and it scaring the crap out of me...we're ok.
Heading to town in 2 hrs to get my once in awhile treat..an eyebrow wax. Then work for a few hrs then home to dye my hair..have to look nice for our trip to Dublin ya know
Cat collar is coming off today. We left it on an extra day because there was still a bit of scabbing and I want it almost fully healed and gone so he can't scratch it and make it bad again!
Have a nice day all.*If you like the advice I give...let me know by clicking the THANKS button*

Good Morning everyone
happy and cheerful down here (albeit with gritted teeth!). Just watched the weather forecast and will be battening down the hatches after my coffee as it looks like we're in for an autumn storm - about time too.
Today is hectic as ever - children to take to school, more information to sift through regarding the pre-school that I've just (apparently) taken over, and then my own house to clean and tidy up. I must also get to the shop for milk and put the bread maker on.
Countless loads in the washing machine I'm sure! Am planning for half term next week and have managed to pick up a childs DVD from Tescos for 3 pounds which I'm hiding until next week. Also got some fantastic toys from a lady on Freecycle which I'm keeping aside.
We're going to our own house for half term and have a friend joining us with her two small children - so hopefully they'll all keep each other busy and she and I can catch up.
Next few weeks have to be living out of the freezer and cupboards as much as I can except for milk. Not setting a budget for myself as I like to be able to take advantage of any offers that I see.
Christmas is almost bought and paid for - just have turkey to buy  Can I fit it in the oven???:rotfl:Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning everyone.
Restless night. DS was up at 1am and had to cuddle him back to sleep. My stupid cold kept making my throat tickle and that in turn kept making my eyes water, even in my sleep.
Quiet day here today. Have to wait in for a parcel to be delivered but nothing more exciting going on than that. Need to push a duster round so kids and their demanding attention permitting I should be able to do that.
No idea what the weather is doing as i haven't even opened the blinds! I haven't even seen a forecast but reading all your posts I assume some of the wet stuff is on it's way?!
Cheese scones were veeeeeeeeery nice yesterday. DS really liked them so I can see more being made. I might try and make some hobnobs and some peanut biscuits if I get the chance as we've nothing "nice" to nibble on in the house!
Tea tonight is creamy chicken with pepper cous cous.
Pen-pen - Happy birthday - hope you have a lovely day
Celyn - your cake was fab!
Molly - you need a hug xxx
Redruby - well done on the house buying - small village sounds like my idea of heaven
Diva - hope the voice reappears soon x
NPM - hope Noah is doing OK.
Hugs to everyon with lurgy or just generally feeling pants!

Morning all
Happy Birthday to Pen pen :bdaycake:Have a great day.
Meant to be heavy rain here later, so will do a small wash and put it on the airer.
Thanks all for the good wishes re the house, fingers crossed the chain will stay together this time, I love the while house, but two things I am really excited about, there is a huge gas Aga which I persuaded him to leave for us, and it has a utility room with a butler sink, :TI have always wanted a utility room.
DD is off to a sloe fair after school, OH will collect her later on, I am sure she will come back soaked to the skin
Going to make some soup later with yesterdays chicken carcas, and want to do something different with the leftover chickenfor dinner tonight.
I am also going to start decluttering, might do a room a week, so that when we come to move, we are not taking junk.
Cranky, hope you feel better soon xx
Hugs to those in need, have good days all xx0 -
Morning Everyone
:beer::jMany Happy Returns Pen-Pen, have a fantastic day :beer::j
Didnt catch up with the thread yesterday as my Dad stayed the whole day, which was surprising but nice. Still managed to get quite a lot or paperwork done.
Today, am dropping off laptop at computer shop - hope they dont have it too long. Then pottering about the house, hopefully some baking will get done but I know ironing will definately feature at some point
Forget to get the belly pork out of the freezer for dinner (again) so will be something quick & simple probably.
Offski now, have a great day.x0 -
Good morning all!
MSD your posts are never boring!
I'm very pleased with myself as yesterday I planned 5 1/2 weeks main meals using the contents of my freezers as the main ingredient. I just need to stick to it now and try and make november a really cheap month to make up for my excesses last week.
Sandwiches for us both for lunch and pizza for tea. Shall be making tomorrows shepherds pie today with some of the leftover bolognese from yesterday-shall just add gravy granules to it, and there may be some to freeze too.
Carrying on with the house deep clean later and hope to go and get some cheap winter bedding on the market this morning. Theres a bloke on the tuesday market that has excellent quality really cheap plants. If I get them today I'm hoping they will help me get the garden tidied so I can plant them as gardening is on my list for the rest of my week off.
Hope everyone has a great day!July grocery- 24.40/220. NSD-1/3.

Morning all
Bitsy Beans - you so organised! Still trying to kid myself that Xmas is a long way off! Have got a few bits but not much at all. Working a long day again today and 1/2 day tomorrow but then have 2 weeks leave, so am intending to blitz house etc in that time. Was OS last night had chicken pieces, roasted veg and side dish of leftover veg curry for dinner with golden rice. OH and myself really enjoyed but boys didn't like roasted veg (strange as most of it they will eat individually - why do children do that?) Have pasta with smoked sausage and mushrooms with sauce made from creme fraiche - fantastic after work meal as only takes 1/2 half hour to make. Still trying hard with the diet and will be weighing on Friday so will see what effect the excess alcohol on Sat night has had on my weight loss this week! Am being really good so hoping I might be able to get away with it (she says in eternal hope). I really want to lose another stone by Christmas have lost 5lb towards this already so don't want to lose momentum.
Have a good day everyone, keep safe and well.

Morning all:wave:
I don't think I managed to pop in yesterday -too busy shopping
I was really frugal with the grocery shop and was able to buy a few little treats for me -socks and glass tealight holders;) oh and also a lovely rust coloured jumper from a charity shop for £3.50.
Breakfast has been Scotch pancakes. Have loads leftover so now have quite a stash of these in the freezer for a free, effortless breakfast one day.
Lunch boxes have pittas stuffed with cheese and hummus, flapjacks/blackberry muffins and apples/grapes/pears/clementines. I'm thinking of making the lunch packing more interactive for the kids -ie they do the packing;) I think I may just do the 'sandwich' part and then they can pick the fruit and snack bits in the morning.
I shall have leftover baked green lentils for lunch. I always seem to be eating leftovers for lunch.
Supper will be potatoes, bacon, peas and cheese. That's cooked potatoes, crisp bits of bacon, peas with cheese sauce. Sort of like macaroni cheese only with spuds instead of macaroni.
I'm going to be bread baking today-loaves and rolls. There's laundry of course and some ironing and also some French homework to do on the pc. I might also make a list -a Christmas list;)
Happy Birthday Penelope Penguin !!:bdaycake:0
