I'm a big fan of mash too and would happily sit down to a bowl of mash and gravy with nothing else -mmmm.
It mightn't be the kind of thing you're looking for but at this time year colcannon is terrific since curly kale is in season. It's a Halloween favourite over here - I love it! Here's a few links - I quite like the idea of serving it with salmon but again, I'd just eat a bowl of it by itself - lots of butter of course!
