Hi there
Just read your diary and wanted to say well done on all your achievements so far. You're doing brilliantly!:j:A
Also, come and join us on the stop smoking thread if you need some support with your quit (it's in here somewhere amongst the diaries). I'm on Day 9 without a cig after quitting on boxing day and couldn't have done it without the peeps on here.
Best of luck with everything.

Hi Lucky Charm, well done on getting to 9 days.
I'm off to bed now, smoke free for today and hopefully many more to come.
Can't believe I've just come out with a cold, thats not fair I've got to get my butt into work tomorrow!!
Good night all. Pen xThis time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Pen Towers is snowed in and icy just like most people at the moment so its been very easy to do no spend days! My poor cats - the back door step has been replaced by a lethal sheet of ice which is directly under their cat flap (they do have a litter tray inside). The oldest one went running out this morning and had a look of horror as he slid up the path. I've put a door mat outside now to try and soften the blow a bit.
Boringly I've still been paying a bit off the debt every day and am really pleased with what I achieved over Christmas. Looking forward to Pap's new 100 day challenge tomorrow (how sad am I?). I've decided to blitz the debt for a couple of weeks and then I'm going to have a break and put a bit of saving aside as I really raided the piggy bank with bills before Christmas.
DS is loving the snow and no school but to be honest, I can't stand the roads at the moment and I'm going nowhere (apart from a bit stir crazy from spending the last 3 weeks in the living room). Heard the reports on the news today that companies are threatening to not pay if staff don't go in. I have a very long journey over the moors to get in, which is not safe at the best of times and if I get stuck I'm miles away from home - so I think its safer to be skint than lying in a ditch somewhere. We've only had 14cm snow which is less than some but like every where else the ice is the problem.
Sorry this is a boring waffle but the weather has somewhat stopped normal life for a lot of people I think. Hope everyone is warm and safe.
PS - just wanted to show a bit of support for the posties and milk men/women out there. I live on a very nasty, steep rural hill that is almost unpassable at the moment. But my postman slid down it to deliver today and this afternoon the milk delivery arrived. The poor guys had been trying to get the morning delivery done all day. It was very much appreciated.:TThis time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.

Another quiet few days here, mainly snowed and iced in. Feeling more positive about the debt-busting now the next challenge has started (always find it easier when I have a target). Just wish the weather would ease up so I could get to work, I've never been one of those people that could have a couple days off and not feel guilty for it.
Had a nice family day today, roped the boys into carrying the shopping back from the local shop (icey steep hill - no mean feat!). Then a nice warming stew for tea and DS has decided to stay at his cousins for the evening, so a free night in for me and DH. Needless to say the wine is chillin' in the fridge - or I could just leave it on the patio, the affect would be the same. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Hi Pen,
Nice to see you are just 'ploding' along. :rotfl: at the cats the other day, it seems we arnt the only ones who would rather stay in when the weather is like this. Really nice to see you having a few family days due to it though
Is he back at school today? Also how is your no smoking going?
Hope you had a nice wine evening last night and getting up today wasnt too bad. Keep going hun, you are amazing :A

Pap,
I'm failing on the no smoking miserably. My excuse is I'm stressed because of driving in the snow (DH doesn't drive) but I know that doesn't cut it. I did really well for a couple of days last week and then hanging around home all day and everything went upside down. We are due more snow tomorrow/weds and then a thaw. So I am going to try again after that.
DS is back at school today (thankfully - he's at an awkward age for going out by himself and not coming back until evening, without a thought to the bad weather). I got to work fine too and it was nice to be there, even if it is only for a few hours.
Life here is rolling along as usual. The kittens are getting big now and once the snow is gone we are going to let them out. To be honest they are starting to get bored and run wild in doors but I don't want to expose them to the bad weather yet.
Money wise, I've done my shopping on-line this week to keep the total down and because of the bad roads I've been too nervous to go anywhere apart from work, so that has helped.
Here's hoping met office got it wrong and the snow down south doesn't appear tomorrow. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Hi penelopedee
I thought I'd look up your diary again as you provided some kind words to me when I set out on my debt "journey" in July 2009.
It sounds as if you are making good progress on all fronts. Keep on going!....
On my debt front, things are still precarious as OH not working again
so we need to get back to basic commonsense finances!
The kittens sound really cute...bet the snow will freak them out!
Bye for now.DFW'er - Lightbulb moment : 31st July 2009 - £18,499

Thinking of spending???..YNAB says "NO!!!!"0 -
Hi Chris, thanks for the kind words. Hope OH gets sorted with a job soon.
Well, I need to confess I ordered some clothes for myself yesterday. A few bits I did need but the rest I just wanted. So much for throwing everything at the debt.
Otherwise I've been fairly MSE. Did the shopping online this week, which saved by £20 at least (would have spent a lot more if I'd taken DH & DS with me). And I've been taking lunch and snacks to work.
Now I need to get back to the debtbusting - no excuses. I will not look at holiday websites or price up the stair carpet!!This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Hi Pen, please dont feel too guilty. Just look at what you have achived in just the last few months, its truely amazing. A small flutter that will no doubt last you a good 6+ months isnt too bad. Plus lets not forget you have still PaD'ed huge amounts in the last few days :T
As you have posted on my diary 'life would be boring if we were good all the time' you have had a flutter and now move on. Tomorrow a new day, and a new debt to bust :rotfl:
Take care, keep plodding amazing lady :j0 -
An expensive day unfortunatley. Had to replace a set of drawers that somebody had managed to trash. Needed to sort it out quickly and was reluctant to get another cheap set so had to chip into my spare cash fund. I was a bit gutted as I would rather chuck it at debt but oh well, it was better than using a card.
DH and I are out to a family meal tonight and I'm currently enjoying a nice glass of white, whilst everyone is arguing who is driving. So that puts me out of the equation! Not really being mean, I normally taxi everyone but as DS is staying with friends I am determined I'm having a proper night out tonight. (And probably a bad head in the morning!).
So not really a complete failure today, because of here I had some cash put by to use and I have budgetted for tonight. I'm looking forward to the meal as we don't often get together and we normally have a good laugh (even though its the outlaws:eek:). I'm lucky, mine are really nice.
Hope everyone has a good Saturday evening:beer:This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0
