I can't stand the smell!
Don't they do one's with sealed lids? maybe look into them?0 -
Must be an OH thing as mine bangs on about us "needing" a deep fat fryer. I'm not a fan, never have been, never will be. I can't see why people would want one. They are the most unhealthy way to cook, and they make your house stink! MIL has one and has to use it in the conservatory with the back door open as it smells so bad!
ETA: Tizla - MIL's does have a lid as its electric and it still stinks!Total Debt at LBM - £19107.03Total now - £11091.220 -
I had one with a lid about 15 yars ago which I bought specifically because the blurb said that it did away with old fashioned steam and smells. Well I used it twice to be sure and it stank the house out and filled the litchen with steam even though the window was open. Could be they have improved in the meantime but if not then I would avoid them at all costs (although I have considered using an extension lead and cooking outside)0

My mum had one about twenty years ago, I remember using it made the house smell like a chippy for days after! Didn't know they still made them though...Foreign politicians often zing stereotypical tunes, mayday, mayday, Venezuela, neck

I deep fry in a big pan on the gas hob. It does create a frying smell and steam so I open the window, but it's not a terrible smell. I use sunflower oil, maybe that helps? Or perhaps I just am not offended by the smell?0

My wife is offended by smells I don't even notice! Well, got one from Lakeland today so I'm covered by the excellent no questions asked refund policy if the smell is bad. Wish me luck, its going on in less than 30 mins!0

Hi rendez2k,
I ditched mine years ago because of the smell too, I've no idea if they are better now or not but these threads may help:

We have one and although it smells of chip-frying while in use, I wouldn't say that the smell lingers. Nor is it any worse than the smell of bacon/sausages grilling that usually accompanies it. We do have an extractor fan located quite close to it, perhaps that makes the difference.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls
