Fish & chips of course, and onion rings, KFC type chicken, tempura (buttered prawns, white fish, squid, veg such as julienned onions & carrot mixture, green pepper, sliced aubuergines, sweet potato, shitake mushrooms).
Also naked/bare Aubergines! After frying them, throw them in a tomatoy curry sauce YUM!Money is not the root of all evil.
It depends on how you obtain it and how you use it.

I bought a cheap tiny deep fryer from Aldi the other day. I broke it in tonight by cooking tofu in it, which actually makes it quite tasty! I bought it for making samosas and spring rolls and I think I'll have a go at doughnuts too (all things I've wanted to make but I'm too scared to put that much oil on the hob), but what other things are nice to deep fry?
Dieters, stay away from this thread!
Haha I bought this deep fat fryer form Aldi too, its lovely and small - which is good cos I haven't got room for a full sized frier, and I've never had one before so wanted to see if I'd get on with it.
So far I've made KFC style chicken and also pakoras and both were gorgeous, didn't taste greasy at all which I suupose is because the oil is nice and hot.
Gonna do prawn toast this weekend :T0 -
You can, seriously, deep fry anything that you want. I saw a show on a restaurant that allows customers to bring in their own food - ANY food - and they will deep fry it for them. Candy bars, eggs, hot dogs, sandwiches. You could get really innovative with your new fryer!0

Good evening
I have never hankered for a DFF, until I saw Hugh F-W's recipe for churros :drool::drool:
I now neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed one, so which one do you recommend, please? It will be used infrequently, honest
I'll add this to the existing thread later, but as the last post on that thread was 2 years ago, I thought I'd start with a new thread first:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Could you not just deep fry them in a few inches of oil in a heavy based sauce pan?
I was going to recommend a tefal actifry then read the recipe.Sealed Pot Challenge member #982
In 2012 I pledge to:- Save £1 a day, meal plan, be more organised, have NSDs, set myself a budget AND STICK TO IT, throw all loose change into Sealed Pot and not open it till 29th November.:money:0 -
My Grandma made the best chips ever - she used an old pressure cooker pan, nice deep sides and a good heavy solid pan - I use the same and it does a great job.0

We bought a tesco value one as I wanted to make crispy beef. It was £14 all in and was a bargain even if I only used it once or twice as the chinese itself costs £20 a time.
I cannot fault it and it does exactly what I want (infrequent use and for that reason I do not need one that fries in only 1drop of oil for 10kg of food).
I seriously could not believe what a bargain it was. I'm sure if you want to spend more you can source one that will do all manner of things but more features would be wasted on me as I oven cook most things.0 -

I'm thinking of buying a DeLonghi Roto Fryer (http://www.lakeland.co.uk/14750/DeLonghi-Roto-Fryer). As a kid the one thing I remember is the bad smells - are they still as bad as they used to be or are they more odor free these days? Does it depend on the oil or the fryer model?0

omg thank you at least im not the only one thats funny about the smell! my hubby said that it was just me been strange lol
he had been wanting one for years he was going on about how he likes them n how convient they are so with my tesco vouchers i gave
in and got one,
i got this one Breville VDF044 Silver Fryer
i got proper crisp n dry oil,
it looked lovely so we went to put some chips on . . . . . the whole house stunk, the window was open and i had the extractor fan on,
it took ages for the smell to go,
i would never buy one again and never reccomend one, its all boxed up like new now,
i think that its all fryers but hubby thinks its just cheap ones and cheap oil
