The attitude of certain posters in this thread has wound me up all day. Several times I've sat here fuming and each time walked away because it serves no purpose at all to argue amongst ourselves.
However, Mr Beckett. You may have risen to the ranks of "consumer champion" in other threads on this forum and for that I commend your persistance, but this time you really look like a bitter person to be complaining about not getting your toy. I understand you feel disappointed, but really, have the decency to let it go.
As for the "little johnny must have this, little johnny must have that brigade", you are breeding nothing more than spoilt brats.
it isnt about the physical item. It is Harrods giving something away (before telling us) whilst 5000 people are waiting like mugs to get what they were hoping for. now the charities are starting to auction the things when it is supposed to be going to the kids. Yes if someone offered me one for £100 I would pay it if it for charity, but i don't like being messed around by shops, especially Harrods for crying out loud.
clearly they decided they couldnt handle 5000 people turning up to collect one, how would they serve people, it would be a logistical nightmare and they decided to ease that burden by giving the items away. given that the have people queuing up for their sale on xmas day, they should know success is about anticipation.
if you want to refer to my other pet projects this year, that was about b&q's mis management and principle of the matter, certainly not about the money or ebaying the item as quite frankly a few hundred quid really wont change my life.0 -
you cant respond because there is no response to sarahlucy's wonderful post.Cant you wait? as I am more than sure that the meerkat soft toy will be sold again at a later date.

somebody needs to learn to use the "multi-quote" button. I'll give you a clue - it's the middle one of the five here VVV

Tbeckett- as I wrote in my PP I feel genuinely sorry for those of you are wanted the Meerkat for your own enjoyment and have been disapointed I think the few very badly worded posts of another user has made this arguement very heated and has upset a lot of people and muddied the message for a few of you.0

i dont think the issue is about the sick children etc, it isnt about charity. Lets keep on the subject of what Harrods have done here, they have promised us soemthing, kept us waiting and now has given away what we were going to have.
If 100,000's of people asked and we were the lucky 5000, we have the right to express our disappointment. whatever Harrods did with them, they made us wait then ditched us. Thats what I am fighting for, i am fighting Harrods, not the children.0 -
Bearing in mind we are on the reservation list.... and they confirmed when they are in stock they would take the payment details.....
Many people are not aware that verbal agreements are in many cases as legally binding as written contracts. Verbal contracts can be upheld by a court if someone decides to breach the agreement, although without written terms and conditions it may be difficult to prove.
Conditions of a Verbal Agreement
Under law there are two basic terms that constitute a binding agreement. The verbal agreement will be binding if there was an agreement on the services to be performed and an agreement was reached on remuneration for this service. This agreement can be reached by a verbal exchange in person, via telephone or via an email.
There are certain contracts and agreements that must be made in writing and these will include the sale of property, tenancy agreements, copyright transfer, and contracts for consumer credit. In some cases, verbal agreements will not be upheld in court, not because of the lack of a written agreement but because the terms of the verbal agreement were not clarified.0 -
I'm sure Harrods have got a pretty good team of lawyers that would've told them this0

From the GOSH listings...
As only a limited number of the must-have cuddly toys have been produced, and they will not be available to buy in stores, Harrods has also given the Charity a number to auction on Ebay to help raise as much money as possible, to help fund pioneering research, life-saving equipment, accommodation for parents and the rebuild and refurbishment of the hospital.0 -

I'm pretty sure that a massive store like Harrods could handle that small size an order and amount of people. How many people pass through the doors each day ?? Something like 100,000 maybe.
IMHO : In a previous post I have commented on the so called breech of contract. There hasn't been a breech of contract as no-one has lost out on anything ...ie you didn't pay for anything so haven't been disadvantaged in anyway0
