I sold an item on saturday buyer left on note saying as he has completed his side of the deal first could I please leave feedback. .
Well of course his side of the deal has been completed first - he pays; you send!

All other posters make sense re the feedback; I would follow their advice personally.

I sent something out weeks ago but have not heard whether it arrived yet (I have e mailed buyer to confirm despatch)
so I haven't yet left feedback...

Hmm. I am going to give a different opinion, as I have often felt exactly like the OP's buyer.

The buyer has paid. That is all the buyer is obliged to do, and they did so, and I presume reasonably promptly. Therefore a seller should leave feedback on this, and the seller should do so, unbidden and promptly - exactly as lee has stated above.

As a buyer, nothing annoys me more than this - as I see it - subtle blackmail that the seller will leave feedback 'after the buyer has left feedback so that the seller knows that they have got the item and are happy blah blah''. !!!!!!? If the buyer doesn't receive the item or is not happy, does the seller really want to hear about it from negative feedback? No - the seller would expect the buyer to contact them first, so that the matter might be resolved. So why this carp about waiting for the buyer to leave feedback before the seller leaves theirs?

Plus it is all rubbish these days - the seller cannot leave negative feedback anymore (something I disagree with strongly, as it happens), so why on earth not simply leave your feedback - 'seller paid (promptly) many thanks', or whatever, and absolutely leave it to the buyer whether, or when, or what they do about leaving their own feedback.
  • Leave something along the lines of "yay- you've paid. Well done for remembering your paypal password" (not really ;)).
Annoys me this- the buyer has a lot more to do than just pay on time, they also need to be realistic about delivery times, not a total nutter, and not a chargebacking scam artist.

Also... sorry if I offend anyone here, but it's a bit sad to care about feedback as a buyer isn't it? It's utterly irrelevent now. For a seller it is useful as it shows you are reliable etc, but as a buyer it just shows that you have bought stuff.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

Some buyers are extremely sensitive about receiving their feedback. I think that many don't realise that they can't receive a negative.

Is this a low feedback buyer? They seem to be particularly defensive and keen to build up their feedback (as we all probably were at one time.)

If you are confident with your item, I would probably just leave them the feedback that they requested (ie paid quickly). In the long run it will make no difference to the transaction other than to pacify the buyer. If you have problems with the buyer you can always leave a follow to any feedback they leave you.

I agree that feedback is optional and I usually leave it on receipt of goods as a buyer. Or as a seller after feedback had been left for the item in question. But if a buyer particulaly wanted feedback before this I would just leave it (I've never been asked by the way).

I've seen occasions where sellers's have rec negs and nuets just for not leaving feedback 1st. Totally wrong in my opinion. The buyers must think they are buying feedback instead of their item.

Hope it all turns out ok for you.

If it turns out to be a nightmare transaction, just put it in perspective - it's just a dot on a web-page.

Isn't feedback supposed to reflect the entire transaction? Yes the buyer paid, but they could be a total idiot after this, demanding a refund for the tiniest thing or having not read the listing, in which case 'Paid quickly' is all well and good but not accurate!

    Several things

    (a) feedback is OPTIONAL, therefore for a buyer to either demand feedback or try to cancel the transaction because of it is quite ridiculous.

    (b) as a seller, i'd much rather leave pos feedback when i know the buyer hasnt (1) claimed they didnt get the item, (2) tried to do a chargeback, (3) claimed the item was damaged / broken.

These days, I'm always just buying and find most sellers don't leave feedback until I do - which is back to front as far as I'm concerned.

In my opinion, its not back to front at all.

The transaction is not complete until the seller knows the item has been received and the buyer is happy. Even if the buyer has paid, etc.
You cant predict whats going to happen further to their payment, there is still room for the buyer to "act". What if the seller has done everything they can, sent it out the same day etc...then the item goes missing in the post and the buyer is extremely rude, demanding, uncooperative, etc? Imagine how you would feel about this after already having gave them feedback saying that their a brilliant buyer, etc? I know I wouldnt be happy. I know sellers cant give negative feedback anymore, but Id rather give zero feedback than an !!! kissing positive which wasnt deserved.

Something like this has happened to me in the past, in fact. I listed a brand new top worth £35 (never worn), it went for £7 but the buyer decided not to pay for it, so I gave a 2nd chance offer to someone for a few quid. Buyer decided to buy it from me, took a week to pay me, still gave them nice, positive feedback. I took the item to work with me to post at home time (Full time worker and have to run to the Post Office after work as theres about 10 mins before it closes).
On the offchance, I was naughtily checking my emails at work and saw an email from the buyer, asking/demanding for me to add a note onto the parcel "PLEASE LEAVE IN CUPBOARD NEAR FRONT DOOR". I had to take the item back home and repackage as it was awkward to write on the padded bag once it was sealed, as it was really padded out! I used a new padded bag, wrote the "instructions" on....lugged it back to work the next day and took the item to the Post Office....a week later, I received a message saying "There was not enough postage on the item and I had to travel half an hour to my sorting office to pick the item up, this is the reason I asked you to put the instructions on in the first place so that they wouldnt leave it at the sorting office!!". I replied politely saying I would refund the difference in the extra postage they had to pay (even tho it essentially meant that I would have made minus profit). I received no reply, but a big fat negative instead.

Id already left her nice feedback, even when she was lazy in making her payment.
After doing everything in my power, going forwards and backwards, repacking (i wasnt obliged to do this in the first place!), going the extra mile for her, etc and then receiving a negative, as you can imagine, I was not happy :o Sent her a message saying "I am sorry you felt you needed to give me a negative, but i feel it is very undeserved and would be grateful if you could possibly reconsider". No reply

Leave feedback immediately after payment received, the punters love it. As someone above said its largely meaningless anyway, if there are any problems ahead then having left feedback will hardly be a problem. If anything leaving a follow up to the positive with a statement of what went wrong is about as strong as leaving a negative. Having said that in 5000+ transactions having left positive first I haven't had a problem. I had a few when I used to do it the other way round.
