2. There are TWO different Georgeson websites in existance, one appears genuine, the other possibly not. I guess you are unaware of this ?
8. Please study my original posting again, as clearly you overlooked the fact that I suggested there be TWO organisations parading as Georgeson, one legit, another not.
The one thing that is surprising, is that no one from a legitimate company named Georgesons, who must surely be aware of this thread by now, has come on to the site to defend any negative feedback.
Feel free to post any postive on-subject response please.[/quote]
Feel free to indicate the two web addresses so we can judge for ourselves.
These threads have been around for over 2 years, but I don't remember seeing a suggestion of a 'real' and a 'fake' Georgesons till today, so maybe they will become aware and post an explanation.0 -
The Letter I had was from:
Georgeson
The Pavillions
Bridgewater Road
Bristol
BS99 6AB
Ph 0800 9231503
Fax 08707036163
It wasn't signed, but it did list the name of the road I lived on many yrs ago.
It also has the blurb on the bottom that its a trading name of Computeshare with the same address as Georgeson but with a different post code: BS13 8AE
So like I said if you think you know which company is mentioned in the letter, then ring them direct. Otherwise ring Georgeson, but be prepared to pay them a commission for their work in locating you.
If you google them, there is plenty of information.Light Bulb Moment: Feb 2007

With regards to the postcodes, BS13 8AE is the physical postcode of the Pavilions.
The other postcodes beginning BS99 are all PO Box addresses. It all ends up in the Pavilions post room but gets delivered in different sacks so that the post room staff can sort it more easily.0 -
I have just come off the phone as recieved letter today, although a tad bizarre that they knew my two addresses post the one they had me last registered, all seems above board mines standard life shares so await claim form and hopefully a few pennies0

I received three different letters from this organisation, I looked at website and used google. I received one payment and after several weeks when I rang them regarding the other two amounts owning to me, they replied that some letters had been sent out by mistake. Has this happened to anyone else?0

Which is closer than most. Except that BS99 is an example of a 'unique high volume user' postcode ....... which may sometimes be associated with a PO Box number ...... but not in this case. It's different to the geographical postcode (BS13) in that it defines a specific user ... not a possible block of up to 80 properties. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I am grateful for all these contributions. I received a letter from Georgeson a few days ago regarding "an outstanding entitlement involving a public limited company". Following reference to this web site (for which I thank you all), I searched the internet and Companies House for Georgeson. I found that Georgeson is in the business of "proxy solicitation" and seems to have 3 major clients at the moment - Standard Life, Scottish Power and Bradford & Bingley. As I have an interest in Standard Life, I obtained a number for them independently and contacted them direct. Result! I now have shares and a backpayment of Dividends due to me, and without paying Georgeson.
In my case, all action was legit. Standard Life confirmed that they had appointed Georgeson to find me having had post returned by the Royal Mail at the time of de-mutualisation in 2006. This in itself is very strange as my address has not changed for over 30 years. However, these things happen. Advice - follow up on your own circumstances but proceed with caution, in case there is an iffy Georgeson out there as well.
In some ways, I am sorry that Georgeson has missed getting a fee from me; after all, they were only doing their job and they did facilitate contact and payment. But I am obviously pleased to have been able to avoid their charge. I won't lose sleep over it; I am sure their contract with their Clients will allow for a notional charge to be collected from the firm in such cases.0 -
