MrsE, do you have your oven gloves yet ?
I only ask, as I was visiting friends in Cumbria, at the weekend. We visited a Wilkinsons... and they had black oven gloves.
Sorry, I didn't notice how much they were.
And I am with you on the matchingness of items ;)
But, I must admit, I do have some bizarre combinations, put together in harder times :o

D'ya know what though? I wouldn't change it for the world and I'm yet to believe that co-ordinated furnishings make anyone happier :happylove

    Each to their own though...:happylove

Been there with the house improvement muck & dust:eek:

Honestly I could not relax in a room like that, but neither could I sit & chill if my living room was a mess either.
I like my space to be plain, classic, simple & uncluttered. I like it to be ascetically pleasing & easy on the eye, it relaxes me & makes me happy.

But as you say, each to their own:D

LOL, I couldn't begin to describe our home. It's a mishmash of furniture from previous lives, with curtains from all sorts of places, wall paper that's seen better days and carpet that wouldn't be my first, second or third choice. Plus everything is covered in a light to medium covering of dust from the "Grampa annexe" we're building. Oh and a nice mix of double glazing and old windows cos we can't afford to upgrade all of them and build for Dad. :D

Got some from Waitrose (they are John Lewis ones) for £6.

They are very thick & hard to grip well (but I guess if they were thin my fingers would get burnt - again), as they are washed they may soften up. But they are black & plain with a little loop for hanging off the kitchen cabinet handle:D

I could much easier relax in that than a room with a patterned carpet or dark walls or busy patterns.
I know some people can take that look a little spartan, but would rather spartan than cluttered.
remind me never to invite you to my house :rotfl: Dark red living room walls and clutter a plenty

I can understand that in fairness, some people have VERY expensive kitchens that they have often spent ages paying for and designing, often at high spec. To then chuck a tea towel with pictures of dogs/cats/herbs on or a oven glove with a horrific 1970's fruit design on the counter, is probably worse than worrying about finding a plain black glove to some :)

    Different strokes etc :)

Yes but some of us don't have tea towels with pictures of cats dogs herbs etc. Everything in my kitchen matches including tea towels. They are either black, white or lime green. I don't use oven gloves anymore as I don't find them flexible enough. My breadmaker pan you lift out by the handle with a folded tea towel and then leave for at least 15 minutes before getting the loaf out by which time you can just pick it up. I cook lots and don't use an oven glove/mitt as it is easier just to fold the tea towel length ways about 8 times which I think gives the same protection.

I flip the handle up with a fork, then grab it with a teatowel. Then remove the pan and invert it. I have an oven glove, but it's bulkier and harder to use-and it does get grubby very quickly. You're better having a couple of cheap ones that you can keep washing.

(that was what I thought but I didn't like to say :D but then I realised that none of my friends are likely to judge me based on my wall paper :D)

I don't judge anyone on their home or wallpaper & I'm upset that you imply that I do.
I was talking about how I like my home to be, so that when I come in tired for work its a space I like to relax in & enjoy being in.
I couldn't live/function or think in a clutter zone, but I certainly don't expect everyone to think like me.
  • My mum only uses one oven glove but it is a really big thick padded one, and thats black. It was white, but the grease has made it look black but it really needs a wash. Its given me a clue though. get her a new one for christmas :xmassmile

I think that matching things up in a house, is an age thing for older people, I am only young and anything goes.

I tend to use silicon mitts that I got from Aldi - very flexible and with the separate thumb, I find them easier to grip..........but they are red :D

I like the look at the last pair

Le Creuset on here too - don't know how different price is after taking postage into consideration http://thecookskitchen.com/browse_4489

I think OXO Good Grips do oven gloves/mitts??
