When I applied for the play.com credit card I had to call them to provide more information - they said you've recently opened a bank account at x and y and z and x and y have given you an overdraft for £xxx.

    x y and z being the lenders names :P
SDG asked me this before aswell

  • I have no ccj's, I did have some defaults showing ( Incorrect linked addresses) They are now removed. My only issue will be lack of credit history

Having said that I got the intial this year with two current accs no o/d. 3 years odd into a 4 year car finance agreement and a year on orange mobile.

Other than that the only credit I have had still on my file is my natwest o/d 3k 1 default 2 odd years ago and being paid off monthly.

So I have limted credit history in the last 4 years but all but the natwest is well run.

I got barlclay card and then capital one classic to get my score moving faster into four figures.

I also have a 3 year old ccj for £179 in feb 06 satified a few months after. It was hsbc I stopped using the acc and didnt change my address but after I stopped using it a charge was added and since I forgot to change my address I didnt no I owed them anything. First thing I knew a debt collector contacted saying I owed 230 quid and the had a ccj for original balance 179 (So anoying getting a ccj over such a petty amount).

Bingy, that's impressive getting a Barclaycard Initial with that sort of history!

My OH didn't get one despite 24 months of flawless history, a Vanquis card open two years with a £2K limit, and only one outstanding default from nearly three years ago. No other adverse and they said no...

... Is any of your adverse by any chance at a previous address, which you forget to mention on applications because you can't remember the postcode for the life of you or something along those lines? :p

As we know Barclaycard use Equifax who only link back one address prior and not the address(es) before...

Why don't you increase your post count and decrease you ego? :rotfl::rotfl:

Big post count is nothing to be proud of, just means you spend more time on here than actually living like a normal person.

It might be my rbs acc of 2 odd years is run well helped.

No I gave them 3 addreses which covers me from the age of 9 so they have the full picture.

It might be the car loan as it was 12k and I have paid of nearly 9 odd k. B4 that I hadnt asked for credit in over a year.

Also when I applied I had no o/d available and no other credit cards etc. It might be that the other guy has better history etc but has a less than perfect credit yet has access to over £5k of unsecured lending where as barclays looked at me and said well has doesnt have any other unsecured lending and what he has got is run well. Despite some adverse history I was suprised but one the credit card matchers said it thought I would get the barlcly card so I applied and hey presto. It wasnt till after I realised they dont normally take people with ccj's. I got an instant approval as well.

Like I said a little birdy told me they don't normally take people with vanquis cards as they consider that the lowest of the low or credit cards. Perhaps they think anyone who borrows on a credit card with what 59.9% on a 2k limit vanquis from memory needs the head examing.

Well yea they didnt give me the basic 250 limit either.

I havent come accross anyone with an intial who got it after they got there capital one classic or there vanquis so that shows a trend to me. They are high end sub prime card and only lend if you havent fallen into any of the other higher rate cards.

They may also weight my income which is not bad and proffesional job (surveyor) perhaps 2 years good payment with vanquis isnt all that appealing when you work @ macdonalds drive-thru for 11k a year.

That doesn't make sense because, apparently, it's a breach of the DPA for CRA's to show creditors which bank / credit card / whatever you are with, only the type of account.

When I spoke to an MBNA underwriter one time about an application, he asked me why my account was so overdrawn and I asked which one, he said he can't see the name of the bank, only it was opened in March 2003... so I can't see how Barclaycard can do that!

Don't take this the wrong way; but how did you come to that conclusion anyway? (Genuinely interested)

  • Perhaps there are other indicators like interest rate?

A friend who was a morgage underwriter and now is becoming an accountant and is a member of the aat.

Plus do you know anyone who has got a barclay card while having another sub prime card?
