Barclaycard Decline

Afternoon All!

I recently applied for a Barclaycard and was declined.

On my decline letter it states the following.

"When we concider applications, we take into account your financial circumstances, including the information on your application form, and we also make any credit reference or other enquires we concider necssary. Unfortunatly you did not meet the required criteria"

What you do think this means? I earn over 25k, am on the ER.

I am aware that I do have a limited credit history however, previous declines are usually due to credit scoring.

I thought that maybe BC have looked at my Barclays account and seen that I was overdrawn?

What do you think?

Cheers
Innocent

Bad luck, but thanks for your feedback.

    Barclaycard
would have limited info about your Barclays Bank current account due data protection regulations, but if you were overdrawn, it would certainly know about that.

The letter you've received is none too helpful. That explanation covers just about
    everything

I think I will appeal anyway and ask for a further explanation.

    Thanks Moggles

What did you go for the bc intial?

I went for one a few months ago and the only credit I had was a phone contract and car loan in its last of 4 years 9 months I haven't had an o/d for about 3 years and my last credit card was about 6 years ago.

I was accepted and its supposed to be scored higher than capital one classic and vanquis and I got it. Then I got capital one and I don't want/see the point in having the lowest of the low vanquis card. Anyway I pay mine in full eassh month to get my credit up.

I have no o/d on either of my bank accs I have similar income to you but your 5k odd of credit might not help your app if your score is still low.

Someone said they won't give you one if you already have a vanquis card.

How would Barclaycard know whether you have a Vanquis card?

They'd see it on your credit report when they credit search you?

No they dont, they see someone has a credit card, they dont get to see who the issuer is, for credit cards or anything else. All they get is credit card, current account, mortgage etc.

Really? They don't see the card issuer when they credit search you?

Correction - if they perform an equifax ID check they can see the provider, however any other type of search, on Call Credit or Experian, will not show the name of the providers.

    How do I know this?

Both Barclays Bank and Orange use Equifax for ID Checks, at the end of the application you are asked questions about your credit report including What bank are you with? and / or which card issuer did you open a credit card with on or around xxx date?

So, as Barclaycard perform an ID Check with Equifax, they can see. Most other providers can't as they typically search Experian ;)

Ah, at that point the data is coming from and being displayed on the Equifax server. Barclays and Orange have no access to it, they only get to know if you passed or failed the ID check. It is a bit like Verified by Visa and Mastercard Secure Code, the organisation has no access to the details you enter. It would breach their contract and the DPA if this sort of information was given out without explicit consent and that is not what you give when you apply.

This is the reason why some cc applications ask which cards you currently hold. Lenders do not have this info' unless you enlighten them.
