  • Hi All,

Not been on this week but have been workign hard.. Just finished week 2 of diet and haven't lost anything in week two after a 4.5lb loss in the first week.

Have walked everyday for 30 mins and in week two have walked for 30 mins and been swimming for 30 mins 3 times. Need some advice on what i should do to up excersize this week - have walked for an hour today and was thinking maybe walk for an hour 3 times this week and on the other days keep up the 30 min walk, and try and do the 3 swims too.
Trying to get fitter as well as lose weight - this week has been very hard not seeing any wirht loss each day so need to do a bit push this week and see if i can get back losing. Am workign towards skiing in march so really don't want to be squeezing into a ski outfit which is too small and being so unfit I can't enjoy my hol!!

Will post tomorrow night - any ideas about best way to boost excersize would be greatly appreciated. I have the app suggested by eric and its ace - really helps motivate me to not miss a day walking..

    Hope all ok with everyone

You get bad weeks, every one does, no matter what you do, ignore them there done and in the past, focus on what you can do today

there are two things that are critical

you have to eat enough, it turns out you have to eat some calories in order to burn calories, it does not have to be a lot 200-300 cals every 3-4 hours is best, if you eat too little your body goes into starvation mode and you will not loose weight, the min should be 1200 for a woman and 1500-1600 for a man

its very important to eat some lean protein with every meal (or protein shake) as its an appetite suppressant and help resist the loss of lean muscle mass, doubly important if your exercising
  • My husband and I have been following the Dukan diet for 3 weeks now. I've lost a stone and he has lost 12 lbs. I have to say we are delighted with that. The diet is easy to follow, but make sure you have the fridge well stocked - get down to Lidls for all your cold meat, seafood and veg!! Oat bran was the only tricky thing to find, but we got it in Holland and Barrett.

However, a word of advice - signing up for the online support can be very expensive. They wanted to charge me £150 for support throughout my diet, which worked out at about £4 for each pound I had to lose. The forums are poor, and the daily emails are only worth it for the very literal translations from French to English! You can get all the key information from the book.
  • Well I lost 2lbs last week so thats a total of 10lbs.
I thought it might have been more last week as I have really 'leaned' down but I guess thats the important thing and not the number on the scales but I can't help but feel a little disappointed after such a huge start!
How are we doing ladies? (and gents!)
Also can I say I found another forum: dukaners.com and thats for non french speaking Dukan followers and has been a God-send!!
I have realised I will never play the Dane! :(

Where are my medals? Everyone else on here has medals!! :p

    Well done, everyone!

smcl42 - Yes, I've heard exactly the same thing about the online support. No way is it worth it.

skypie - Thanks so much for the tip about those sugar-free syrups. I seem to have been experiencing the same kind of thing as you. After my 6lbs weight loss during my 5 days of Attack, I've lost 2lbs further during my first week of Cruise. It does seem a little disappointing after such a dramatic start, but is much more sustainable and healthy. Also, it looks as though I have lost a lot more than the actual 2lbs when I look in the mirror. I have my shape back again, hurray!
  • Thanks so much eric for taking the time to help me.. I will take your advice on the food - perhaps I have been having too many calories and thats why I have maintained - The app i have been usung had 1600 set and so I have been thinkin I have been doing well as every day it says I need to eat more!! Perhaps I need to set it to 1200 calories!.

With regards to the excersize do you think the duration is the best - ir walk for longer each time, or should I do more frequent half hour stints...I'm obviously keen to build muscle so thought longer would work them harder.

I really appreciate your advice about letting it go - i've felt cross about not losing this week and without hope but will get my bum in gear and get on my treadmill shortly. I;ve only eaten fruit ( banana) and a youghurt so far today and am having some gammon for tea so should be well within calories. Don't think i have ever experiences ketosis so am keen to try and get to that point...

Thanks again for your time in replying and HUGE HUGE congrats on you fantasic weight loss this week - you must be absolutley chuffed to bits... If i am feeling fed up in week 3 its a really kick up the bum to see how brilliantly you are doing in week 41. Well done.

  • Gleek- I've just read your post and what an absolute horror!! NAsty piece of work... Ah well I guess you just have to remember how brilliantly you are doing and take no notice of the old bat... And think how sad her life must be to think that saying something like that to someone else is acceptable.
What an awful way to start the day!!

If it makes you feel any better I used to be a support worker for Young people and adults with learning disabilities... One of the men I worked with is deaf and I bumped into him at sainsburys a few weeks ago. He has learning disabilites and has alwasy said exactly what he thinks..( often rude things about women he finds attractive!!) He uses british sign language and when he saw me he gave me a big hug - I've not seen him for 3 - 4 years. He then proceeded to tell me how fat i've got and asked if i was having a baby... When I said no he thought I was joking... Luckily the conversation was all in sign so no one else heard - but it made me feel awful for the rest of the day...

Oat Bran - Tesco, Asda, Sainburys, they all sell it, just tricky to find there, with the "health food" normally...

Cruise - slows down the weight loss... but hey, still loosing a bit anyway...

Are you doing one day protein only/one day with vegs or week protein/week with veg?

I have tried alternating each day but may try the weekly change, may be easier....

Keep up with it everyone :)

dont forget i put on weight the week before with a huge cal deficit, it happens, i just knuckled down and got on with the job in hand, i expect a bad week this week after that big number but so be it. Its also not uncommon for people who start weight loss to loose some good numbers for the first couple of weeks and then to hit a small wall as there body adjusts.

I try to aim for my cardio sessions to be 60-90 mins long and to keep them at a level so that I am dripping with sweet at the end, I want to burn cals but also improve my fitness levels. To generally burn cals thou duration is probably more important than intensity. I also try to ensure that my exercise does not leave me injured or in a state that I can not exercise the next day, daily exercise is more important that 1 massive sessions followed by rest.

To build muscle you must rest to allow growth, so I typically do cardio day, cardio day, resistance day and then repeat and my cardio days do not include any upper body work

Men ideally should not drop below 1500 cals and women 1100-1200 cals, you need to eat to loose weight, 4-5 small meals a day every 3-4 hours for 200-300 cals each, this is what i did last week, i re-jigged my cal intake and split it over 5 meals pretty equally
